The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Time RXS Carbon Pedal (white)

The product is Time RXS pedal which was being used for bicycling. The pedal axle cracked causing the pedal to bend and the cleet on my cycling shoes to disengage from the pedal resulting in my foot abruptly sliding off the pedal and resulted in a hamstring tear on my left leg. This is the 3rd such pedal that I have owned that has failed in a similar manner.

The product, in the report: carbon bicyle pedals

The bicycle pedals have been used approximately a dozen times. the pedals were purchased separately and the consumer screwed them into the cranks himself.

The consumer’s 12 years old, 100 lbs son was racing his BMX bike in a competition, when the spring axle slip right out of the pedal body. This prevented the spring from holding the cleat in place. The cleat became loose and the axle became partially attached. The son’s foot slipped from the pedal clip and stopped racing. He was not injured.

The consumer and his son tapped the pin back in lightly, but it came back out 3 times this past weekend. Therefore, they do not have confidence in the safety of it.

The consumer has attempted to find contact information for the firm, but they don’t appear to provide a U.S. Contact Number.

The consumer paid approximately $300 for the bicycle pedals.

The product, in the report: ULteam stem used on professional racing bicycle

(10/03/2012) The consumer stated that he was riding his bike on a main road. He had been riding about thirty miles. He was in the left hand lane. He came to a traffic light. He started to make a left hand turn. His handle bar came out of the stem and then he crashed. On examining the bike he noticed that the bottom bolthead of the face plate had sheared off allowing the faceplate to open like a clam shell.

The consumer stated that this had never happened before.

The stem is an after market stem manufactured by Time. However Time is not the culprit. The culprit is a widely practiced design that all mfrs have used of still use, this being a 2 bolt faceplate design.
