The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Slime Smart Tubes- Super Thick- Schrader Valve Product Number: #30046 Size: 26? tube with Schrader valve for 26 x 1.90 (559 x 50 mm) tires

Back last fall, we bought 5 of the Slime Smart Tubes in 26 inch/1.90 with Schrader valves and started using them in May of 2013.

In just over 3 months, nearly every tube failed in the same way, with the entire tube slowly rotating in the tire so the stem eventually gets stressed against the metal tire opening and then gets ripped away from the tube while riding. The loss of air is very sudden and it easily results in a crash.

I just lost #4 today while riding next to traffic, losing control of my front wheel and crashing hard against the pavement. I came away with bruised ribs and road rash. I was going 20mph. My wife crashed once on this tube and lost air a second time without a crash and my daughter lost tire pressure once while riding as well. In each case, the valve stem separated from the tube and the tube lost in less than a few seconds.

I would seriously suggest that you pull these from the market. They are too smooth, causing them to rotate in the tire, and too prone to failure. These are not safe to ride on.
