Hurt, no treatment Made Oct 23, 2023, sent to the company Oct 25, 2023, published by CPSC Nov 8, 2023
The product, in the report: Sram Red 22 read derailleur road bicycle component
Safety issues with cycling component made by Sram. This report is about cycling product Sram Red 22 rear derailleur. I was using the product. The components is a critical component of the bicycle, used to shift gears and keep chain tension. A small screw that holds the pulley under spring tension. When the component wears to a certain degree the pulley simply comes out the derailleur resulting in catastrophic failure of the bicycle part resulting in chain drop, chain tension loss etc. I nearly crashed when this failure occurs. After having second look it is clear that a design flaw is present in this component. Injury is highly likely.

The product, in the report: Sram red 11 speed rear derailleur short cage
sram red speed derailleur broke a part mid bicycle ride. I had the problem happen to me a while ago and recently found out that a very similar product was recalled and had no idea until I recently stumbled upon the article. I was using sram red rear derailleur on bicycle for shifting gears. There were no injuries but I lost my balance on the side of the road since when went to pedal there was no resistance and I could of easily rode into traffic. I had to walk home and some damage to my bike frame.

No one hurt Made Dec 11, 2020, sent to the company Dec 30, 2020, published by CPSC Jan 14, 2021
The product, in the report: SRAM Red 10 Speed Rear Derailleur is used to shift the rear gears of a road bicycle.
I have the following product from SRAM. It is SRAM Red 10 Speed Rear Derailleur shown here: https://www.sram.com/en/sram/models/rd-red-b1 This product is a critical part to of bicycle’s shifting mechanism. Unfortunately, it has a major flaw that makes it fail during a ride. This product simply blew up on my bike under pressure and it is a major hazard for bikers since falling parts could jam the back wheel and lead to an accident. There’s pin inside this product that routinely has failed for many bikers. SRAM needs to take responsibility and recall this part for all users.

No one hurt Made Apr 12, 2020, sent to the company Apr 20, 2020, published by CPSC May 4, 2020
The product, in the report: Sram Red 22 mechanical rear derailleur
I purchased a new 2015 Trek Emonda SL5 Red with the Sram Red 22 mechanical group set from a Trek retailer. After approximately 5,000 miles, I noticed that the chain was not maintaining tension. This led me to discover that the rear derailleur cage was beginning to separate from the rear derailleur body. If the cage were to separate from the derailleur body, the cage could enter the rear wheel and cause catastrophic damage to the wheel, bicycle frame, and result in serious injury or death.
Sram does not specify any routine maintenance for Sram Red rear derailleurs. I decided to disassemble the derailleur cage from the derailleur body to see if it needed lubrication. Upon disassembling the derailleur, I discovered that the rear derailleur’s pivot pin and retention screw had worn into each other, wearing down both (see pictures). This could cause the derailleur cage to loosen or dislodge causing the rear derailleur to jam or interfere with the wheel, posing a fall hazard.
I did some research and discovered [REDACTED]. My derailleur has the exact same failure as described in the recall, but the serial number, 45T46097328, does not fall within the range specified in the recall. I suspect this defect may apply to more derailleurs than the ones identified in the recall, and warrants additional investigation.
I called Sram about this issue. I was notified that they do not have replacement parts available (i.e. no rear derailleur cage assemblies or retention screws), and that the only remedy is to replace the entire derailleur at my expense. I inquired if there were any financial assistance offered by the company, and I was told no. The MSRP for a new Sram Red 22 mechanical rear derailleur is $310.

The product, in the report: SRAM Red rear derailleur, 10-speed, short cage, circa 2012-2013.
I was riding my bicycle at about 20-25 miles per hour when my SRAM Red derailleur malfunctioned. I barely kept the bike upright, skidding about 50 feet, avoiding a fall and injury. The derailleur is destroyed and caused severe damage to my bicycle. 12 wheel spokes, chain, and wheel hub destroyed.

No one hurt Made Nov 20, 2019, sent to the company Jan 29, 2020, published by CPSC Feb 12, 2020
The product, in the report: 2013 SRAM Red 10 seed rear derailleur
Similar to [REDACTED] and numerous threads on internet forums with the same SAFETY issue. I contacted the manufacturer and was told my product is not affected even though it falls in the serial number ranges provided. I disassembled my product to inspect it and indeed it shows the same signs of wear that will lead to failure of the product resulting in a potential crash and injury. They were sticking to their guns since the recall specifically calls out the [REDACTED] of the product and does not mention the [REDACTED] version, even thought both are subject to the same safety issues. The recall needs to be amended to include BOTH variants of the product. Luckily i was able to discover teh safety risk before anything detrimental occurred.
This link is an internet forum where numerous posters talk about having the same wear issues on products that are not covered under this recall even though they should be. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Road brake and shifting lever for drop handlebar racing bikes
Sram shifters have a manufacturing defect that causes them to break. It can cause a rapid slip in the pedals resulting in a crash or accident. This also leaves the rider stranded in the bicycles hardest gear. Riders exerting themselves to ride after the damage can experience muscular trauma and joint damage.

No one hurt Made Jun 2, 2017, sent to the company Jun 12, 2017, published by CPSC Jun 26, 2017
The product, in the report: SRAM DB5 Hydraulic Disc Brake
My son was riding his bicycle when the front brake “locked” up. This happened after just riding for a few miles when the brakes got warm. My son was not injured in the incident.
The brake failure occurred with the following brakes:
SRAM DB5 Hydraulic disc brakes
I have read online this is a very common issue with all of the early generation SRAM Guide R and DB5 versions brakes. Supposedly it is a manufacturing defect in the piston assembly used in the lever assembly. SRAM has updated the internals but has not sent any notice or made the parts available.
The brake sticking issue occurs when the brakes are warm. This can happen from riding or leaving the bike in the sun.
