The product, in the report: Spiuk Kronos Time Trial Helmet
On Aug 6, 2011, I was hit by a car while cycling on my time trial bike with my Spiuk Kronos helmet. I was ejected from the bike and landed hard on the asphalt road. Immediately I was unconcious and later rushed to the ICU by an ambulance. I spent total 7 days in the emergency room.
Despite wearing Spiuk Kronos helmet (bought in May 2011), the helmet didn’t manage to protect my head. The back strap opened very easily and as a result only the front one going around my hears and chin was maintaining the helmet on my head. Due to the chock, the helmet was then stripped off my head causing further damage to my right hear that required few stitches.
I then hit the pavement and suffered a frontal skull fracture extending through the roof of the right orbit and had at least 5mm stitches on the right forehead!
The main problem I am reporting here is how easily the back strap could open, leaving the overall strapping system ineffective. Overall, my helmet only had very minor damage at the “tail”. Had the helmet didn’t fly from my head, my head injury would have been spared!!
