No one hurt Made Oct 5, 2026, sent to the company Oct 8, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 23, 2026
The product, in the report: Integrated carbon fiber bicycle handlebar and stem combination (cockpit) featuring an internal female M4 threaded accessory mount insert on the underside of the stem. Designed for integrated routing and aerodynamic performance on high-end road bicycles.
During a road cycling ride, the factory-embedded M4 female threaded insert on the underside of a carbon Roval Rapide integrated bicycle cockpit stripped out completely under normal riding conditions. This caused the attached out-front accessory computer/camera mount to suddenly detach from the handlebar. The hardware failure caused me to lose control and fall off the bicycle. While I did not suffer physical injury in the fall, the sudden collapse of the mount and detachment of electronics above the front wheel created an immediate crash hazard and catastrophic lockup risk. The integrated single-bolt M4 mounting interface is insufficient to support dynamic road vibrations and cantilevered device loads. Standard assembly protocols were followed prior to failure, including proper bolt engagement and application of removable threadlocker ([REDACTED]). Specialized retail shops are aware of recurring single-bolt thread stripping on these cockpits.

First aid Made Apr 21, 2024, sent to the company Apr 23, 2024, published by CPSC May 7, 2024
The product, in the report: Sirrus X3 bicycle
I own a Specialized bicycle, model Sirrus X3. While riding on April 19, 2024, one of the pedals snapped off. I immediately lost control and landed on the pavement in the middle of the street. I suffered minor injuries, but it could have been much worse. I took the bike to the local Specialized service center and had it repaired. The cost of repair (about $100) was not covered, which I thought was unfair.

The product, in the report: Specialized Allez Elite
I had crushed into a parked vehicle while I was riding a specialized bicycle on July 2, 2020. I was riding a bicycle on the uphill and late for detouring/avoiding the parked vehicle and crashed on the rear bumper of the vehicle with my front wheel. All of my bicycle parts were not broken except the frame that was crushed and bent. My injury was left 5th finger, which was a laceration required 6 sutures. I took my bicycle to the local bicycle shop that I purchased this year March. The shop contacted the Specialized for the warranty service and compensation but The Specialized offered only “discount on a new frame”.

The product, in the report: Specialized Sirius X 3.0 Large
Purchases Sirius X 3.0 from local bike shop. While on my 5th ride (less than 80 total miles) the left pedal and crank arm unexpectedly came apart. Fortunately I was able to catch myself and avoid injury. The pedal and crank showed no sign of weakness, it simply gave out without warning. The thread of the screw was partially stripped and the bolt was warped. Unsure if it is a design flaw or production flaw.

The product, in the report: Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp 27.5 M Black/White Serial #: WSBC601071387N
I want to inform you about an injury with my 15 year old son. He was riding his Specialized Stumpjumper in the park when his chain fell off. When he went to turn his bike upside down to put the chain back on, he grabbed the fork with his left hand, and his left index finger was almost completely severed by the front disc rotor. Upon reviewing the front rotor design, I realized just how dangerous it is. The rotor has large openings that allow fingers inside, sharp edges, no protective cover, and is an effective cutting device when the wheel is spinning.

The product, in the report: Specialized Riprock 20” Coaster Turquoise/Hyper Green/Light Turquoise
My 6 year old daughter was recently the recipient of a Specialized Riprock 20” Coaster purchased on 3/27/2019 by her grandfather.
On the evening of 3/27/2019 I asked my daughter to put her new bike in our garage. She recounted that she was having trouble engaging the kickstand and had knelt down and grabbed the upper portion of it with her left hand, while rotating the end of it down with her right hand. When the kickstand engaged and snapped into place, it clamped down on her left pinky finger like a guillotine, nearly severing the end of it.
We were seen in the [REDACTED], where the doctors determined that her fingernail need to be entirely removed and the tissue repaired with sutures. The laceration was so deep that her bone was visible. Upon inspection it was clear that the inner edges of the hinge on the bike kickstand are razor sharp.

The product, in the report: Specialized Hydroformed Alloy Aerobar
The bolt on the Specialized Hydroformed Alloy Aerobar snapped and broke in two during the Ironman World Championship in Kona, HI. I was not aware of the product recall, but have had my bike serviced twice at a Specialized service center in Singapore since the recall. They did not inform me about the recall. Specialized did inform in 2014 that the aerobar had to be serviced, something I did at another event in Philippines in March 2014.

The product, in the report: Specialized Epic cross country bike. Black in color. Size is XL. Again. Through a web search of broken chainstay there are several pages and forums on this topic
I was riding a specialized epic bike up a forest road. The frame part snapped. This is the chain stay part on the bike. The weld failed. The crack is right along the joint. Straight and clean. A total failure of the weld. I realize the fact that a Mountain bike wouldn’t be covered however this is a cross country bike. Not what I would consider a mountain bike in that regard. The issue I have is upon further investigation and searches along the Internet this isn’t an isolated incident. In fact the issue is always the same and the weld fails. I believe this is an issue that needs attention. Apparently Specialized has warrantied this part on a case by case basis. Which I also believe is an unfair practice if they are addressing an issue they are aware of. Furthermore the break can cause the rider to lose control of the bike. I believe this is an issue of manufacturing and not abuse or use other than intended.

The product, in the report: Specialized Hybrid bicycle, graphite color, large frame, purchased 9/6/13
I was riding my bike on 4/7/14 on a dry, flat asphalt bike path in full daylight with no debris on path and no other riders near. I downshifted from 5 to 4 when the rear derailleur broke in half. I felt it as a sudden crunching when I clicked the downshift lever, and then the chain fell off and the lower half of the derailleur was swinging by loose chain, causing a hazard to getting caught in the spokes. I stopped before it caused me any problem, but this sudden failure has the potential to cause a rider to crash. The bike is a Specialized Hybrid, only 7 months old, serial number WSBC6020857681
