The product, in the report: Bicycle Rim
Caller has bicycle repair shop, customer brought in a 26” bicycle with the rim split along straight line as if it had been cut into the rim and blown.
Manufacturer he told them the rim has factory defects but he was told that without a receipt there was nothing they could do for him without a receipt.
He ordered a new rim from Niagara Cycle Works while advising them that he thought that the rim he was replacing for his customer had a factory defect but when he received the new rim it had deep grooves on the inside of the rim offset to where the nipples would rest.
He will attach photographs with this report when returning,
Although he states that the rider of the bicycle brought in is heavier than usual he is reporting this rim because he would like the public made aware so that if other incidents such as this are happening and not being reported they would be aware of the potential safety issue.
