Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Sep 1, 2026, sent to the company Sep 4, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 21, 2026
The product, in the report: Manufacturer: SCOTT Model: Roxter 400 Frame size: 24 inch Serial number: SAK30A40026012088 Retailer: REI
A child was riding a SCOTT Roxter 400 24-inch bicycle purchased from REI approximately one month before the incident. While the child was riding over a hill, the front wheel separated from the bicycle, causing the child to fall from the bicycle and sustain injuries.
The bicycle was not intentionally modified following the incident. The bicycle, front wheel, and associated components have been preserved for inspection. Photographs document the bicycle and the condition of the child following the incident.
The child received medical attention following the crash.
At this time, I am reporting the incident because I am concerned that the separation of the front wheel may represent a product-safety issue. I am not making a determination about the cause of the failure. The bicycle was purchased from REI approximately one month before the incident, and I am requesting that the product and circumstances be evaluated.

The product, in the report: Scott Speedster model # EN 14781 Bicycle
On June 23, 2020, my son, [REDACTED NAME], was riding his bike, a Scott Speedster (model # EN 14781) along [REDACTED] in Belmont, MA. The steerer tube broke as he was riding and of course he fell. He sustained a concussion and injuries to his face, arm and shoulder. I know there was a recall on Speedsters because steer tubes were prone to breaking. My son was between jobs, temporarily uncovered by medical insurance, and will have to pay for the ambulance and the testing that was performed at [REDACTED] emergency room.

No one hurt Made Sep 3, 2019, sent to the company Oct 4, 2019, published by CPSC Oct 21, 2019
The product, in the report: Scott USA Inc. model Speedster, serial number H9EZ17932. The Scott dealer said that Scott indicated that this bike was manufactured was in 2009.
For no apparent reason, a large crack has developed in the front head steer tube of my Scott (Scott USA Inc.) Speedster bicycle. When the crack fully propagates, it will abruptly cause the entire front wheel to come off. I called the nearest Scott dealer and they recommended that I not ride the bike due to safety concerns. The manufacturer, Scott USA Inc., already has a recall against the 2014 Scott Speedsters. The Scott dealer informed me that my Scott Speedster is a 2009 Scott Speedster model.
