  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 17, 2019, sent to the company Jul 19, 2019, published by CPSC Aug 2, 2019

The product, in the report: The Model Number is R3013WML The receipt says 24G RDM GRNT 003867513776 on the receipt  It was a light blue bike that said Roadmaster for people under 5’6” 14’ G Granite Pear

I bought a preassembled Roadmaster bicycle at Walmart in Burbank, California last week. The handlebars are not securable. After six days of 3 miles a day riding the bike, the handle bars became loose and I could not reach the brakes, as the whole handle bar was rattling around the bike. The squeeze part of the brakes on the handlebar fell downward, as the handle bar rattled loosely out of place. The bar’s squeeze brakes dropped over 45 degrees to be hanging downward where they were unreachable. The whole bar flipped over 45 degrees in a matter of moments. Luckily, I was able to stop the bike with my feet. I took the bike home. The handle bars are suppose to be secured by a wrench shaped secure bracket in front of handlebars. I had a strong man try to secure the handle bars as tightly as possible with the wrench. I tried riding the bike again. Now the handle bars are sliding out of place again. This time flipping up 45 degrees, so the brakes are not reachable when riding.  We can not secure the handle bars with human strength dangerous design. Maybe had a machine secured the handle bars with above human strength it could be safe, maybe not. Having only one place to secure the handle bars by the wrench is a flimsy design. It is not secure. This bike is dangerous. It is a design issue. If we can not secure the handle bars with human strength it is a dangerous design. The product, in the report: Bought a bike at Walmart and as soon as I get into the parking lot, the chain came off. I brought it back in and the replacement bike I got had brakes that were assembled wrong and were completely ineffective. The walmart store in San Clemente is selling dangerous bikes that can get someone killed. When I called the store, the only interest shown by the mgr was to file a claim against the company which assembled the bikes so they could get some money back. I told this guy they need to stop selling ALL bikes assembled by that company but was told they were NOT going to stop selling those bikes, even though it is a safety issue and those bikes could get somebody killed.
