Hurt, care not known Made Feb 3, 2023, sent to the company Feb 7, 2023, published by CPSC Feb 22, 2023
The product, in the report: The product is based around the RZ7 model, and the problem is centered around the proprietary stem and bar. There are actually several issues. The first run of the stem’s faceplate was out of spec and does not provide an adequate distribution of clamping forces, and it also tends to crush the carbon bar. The company attempted to redesign the faceplate, but it exhibited some of the same issues, and they didn’t attempt to recall the existing faulty faceplates in the field. The company then learned that most of the bars are out of tolerance, allowing slipping regardless
I formerly worked for Parlee Cycles, and recently left to seek other opportunities. They have a product in the field that has already caused multiple crashed and injuries, they know the issue, it can be replicated with new product, they refuse to pursue a recall despite there being many faulty products in the field. The product relates to the a bicycle modeled the RZ7, and it’s proprietary stem and bar. Their clamping force is not adequate, which allows the bars to rotate forward with force applied (usually over a big bump in the road). There have been many crashes and injuries, but the company has simply replaced product to appease customers. I am adding a general date below, but during my time with them, we had report after report of bars slipping, with no recall action taken by the owners of the company. It has also taken place in multiple countries. Two of the most recent cases which had injury, came from [REDACTED], where they refused to carry the product anymore. I am putting the company’s address below. I know of 5 injuries in at least 4 countries that this has taken place. They have made no service bulletin and no communication to the shops indicating the issue.
