The product, in the report: 20”Hyper Nitro Circus BMX bike, black and red detailing. Bike frame is made of black powder coated metal that is very heavy. Across the bike frame Nitro Circus is written in white lettering. Leather bike seat with nitro circus emblem sewn on seat in red thread. Model HYPT201212 UPC 690995302328
My son was riding his nitro circus bicycle purchased at Walmart down a hill. The handlebar mechanism became loose and he could not turn and lost control. The handlebars were no longer functioning and he could not turn the wheel. He went in to grass to avoid crashing in the street and flew over the bike and the peg on the bike stuck in to the mud causing the bike to stop suddenly as it was stuck in the ground and causing him to land on the bike handlebar that was sticking up. He sustained life threatening injuries and was hospitalized. The plug from the handlebar had also fallen out and this caused him to have a portion of his flesh removed at the site of the impalement and heavy bleeding did occur. An ambulance came quickly preventing his death. I believe this bicycle is not made in a safe manner. The plugs, handlebar and pegs contribute to its lack of safety and it should not be sold as a child’s product. The plugs that are in the handlebar ends are metal washer like plugs that screws in to the ends of the handlebar. I do not think this type of plug is safe or sufficient to prevent handlebar injury in a child.
