The product, in the report: Mongoose Mutant Bicycle Purchased From Walmart

We purchased a mongoose bike for our son for Christmas. This saturday the weather in Missouri was so nice, he got to break out that new bike. Being 5, we just removed the training wheels and he is learning to ride. his foot slipped from the pedal on the bike and when doing so his leg got caught between the pedal and the bike frame. Causing him to wreck. Due to the fact that this bikes pedals only go frontwards and not backwards this was a HUGE ISSUE. His leg was completely stuck until breaking the bike in order to remove his leg. Very tramautic experience for a 5 year old. I hope that you all can make some changes to your bicycles as this seems to be a safety issue that could very well have caused even worse than him being tramautized and losing his bike, and lots of cuts, he could have very well broken his leg or worse! As a mother, i feel it is important to inform others of this defect in your bicycles and hopefully prevent an injury like this from happening.

The product, in the report: Mongoose 20” bicycle with “outer limits” graphics

On Sept. 3, 2011, While peddeling on a new 20” Mongoose with “outer limits” graphics on the frame, (purchaced and assembled at Wal-Mart)The chain came off causing the riders foot to come down onto the speeding ground, which turned into a human cartwheel that ended up with a broken collar bone and several other minor injurys. The Bicycle was inspected and belived that the reflector in the rear wheel came loose and caused the chain to de-rail. On May 2, 2012 Almost the exact same accident happened (fortunantly, no broken bones this time)with a different rider with no apperent cause as to how the chain came off of the sprokets. When chain is put back on- the chain is tight with very little free-play.
