We have a blue we have only ridden a few times. The quill on the handle bars broke. If we had been going fast this would have been very bad.

(7/14/2026) KENT INTERNATIONAL INC: Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this matter. Kent International Inc. has reviewed the information provided in the CPSC’s report regarding the incident allegedly involving one of its bicycles.
Kent International Inc. was contacted by the consumer involved in this matter on or about June 24, 2026. She advised that “the quill broke” after riding the bike 3 times. Kent’s Customer Service Department reached out to the consumer requesting that she send in photos of the issue. Once those photos were received and reviewed, the consumer was notified that the stem was not defective. In fact, it was noted that the handlebar stem was inserted below the Minimum Insertion Line on the handlebar stem. A photo of the issue can be provided to the CPSC upon request. The consumer then advised Kent’s Customer Service department that they did not adjust the handlebar stem properly because they were camping and only had a pair of pliers as tools.
It is unclear whether the consumer purchased the bicycle from the retailer fully assembled or if they assembled the bicycle themselves. However, this bicycle is normally only sold online which requires the consumer to either assemble it themselves or take it to a professional and pay to have it assembled. Unfortunately, we do not have this information available to us.
Kent’s warranty is included in the User Manual attached to each bicycle sold in the US. The warranty states, “The frame is warranted for the usable life of the bicycle. Kent International will replace the frame at no charge, should it fail in any weld point when the cycle has been used in a normal manner, and determined by our inspection. Kent will also replace the bicycle fork if it should fail at any weld point. You must receive prior authorization from Kent Customer Service, before returning any product or parts. All other components are warranted against defects for six months from the date of purchase when properly assembled and used in a normal manner.” This bicycle did not fail at any weld point on the frame or fork. Therefore, the warranty expired six (6) months after the date of purchase in September 2025.
Every Kent bicycle model is rigorously tested by a CPSC-approved third party testing laboratory each year they are manufactured. As you are aware, the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has stringent rules, regulations and required testing procedures for bicycles sold in the United States, and all Kent bicycles meet and/or surpass these requirements. This particular bicycle is sold exclusively by Walmart, who requires additional testing over and above those required by the CPSC. Kent keeps extensive records of all testing performed on their bicycles. The particular model in question here (Model 22636) has been in production since 2012 and has received passing test reports each year it has been produced. Copies of those test reports are available to the CPSC upon request.
