The product, in the report: Jetson Light Rider X 20” Wheel Light-Up Bike, Includes Light-Up Frame and Wheels, 3 Different Light Modes, Easily Adjustable Seat Height, 20” Rubber Tires, Blue, JLRX20-BBL Jetson Light Rider X 20” Wheel Light-Up Bike, Includes Light-Up Frame and Wheels, 3 Different Light Modes, Easily Adjustable Seat Height, 20” Rubber Tires, Blue,
What happened that made you want to report?
While assembling the Jetson bicycle for my daughter, I noticed a potential manufacturing defect. The brake calipers were mounted on the inside of the frame, which caused the brakes to activate during a sharp right turn without any manual input. This defect was present in two separate purchases of the same bicycle.
What type of product(s) were being used?
The product in question is a Jetson bicycle. Jetson Light Rider X 20” Wheel Light-Up Bike, Includes Light-Up Frame and Wheels, 3 Different Light Modes, Easily Adjustable Seat Height, 20” Rubber Tires, Blue, JLRX20-BBL Jetson Light Rider X 20” Wheel Light-Up Bike, Includes Light-Up Frame and Wheels, 3 Different Light Modes, Easily Adjustable Seat Height, 20” Rubber Tires, Blue, JLRX20-BBL
Who was using the product(s)?
My daughter was the one who tested the bicycle after the initial assembly.
How were the product(s) being used?
The bicycle was being used for a test run after assembly. Upon bringing the bike back inside the house, I made a sharp right turn to enter the living room, which led to the inadvertent brake activation due to the misplacement of the brake calipers.
Were there any injuries that happened or may have happened while using the product? Fortunately, no injuries occurred during the test run. However, the defect poses a significant safety risk, especially to children who might not be able to react in time if the brakes were to activate unexpectedly.
How did any injuries occur? No injuries have occurred as of now. However, if left unchecked, an unexpected activation of the brakes during a sharp right turn could cause a rider to be thrown over the handlebars.
Additional Information: After discovering the issue, I contacted Jetson’s customer service. Initially, they advised me to return the bike to Amazon. However, I emphasized the potential severity of the defect and insisted on escalating the matter. I returned the bike and requested a replacement, hoping it was an isolated incident. Yet, the second bike also had the same defect. This led me to believe it might be a more widespread manufacturing problem. Despite my attempts to escalate the issue within Jetson, I have not seen any progress from their side in addressing the matter. Given that the bicycle was on sale during Amazon Prime days, I am deeply concerned about the number of potentially defective units in circulation. I plan to leave a review on Amazon to warn other consumers, but I believe Jetson needs to investigate this matter urgently to prevent any potential injuries.
