No one hurt Made Jul 29, 2024, sent to the company Aug 1, 2024, published by CPSC Aug 15, 2024
The product, in the report: Huffy 16 in. Rock It Kids Bike for Boy Ages 4 and up, Child, Red Huffy 12 in. Sea Star Kids Bike for Girls Ages 3 and up Years, Child, White
2 Huffy children’s bicycles, 12” and 16” both have the same problems and are not safe for children. The training wheels have fallen completely off multiple times during use, the forks and handlebars are not capable of being fully tightened and rock back and forth and wiggle left and right so they can’t keep a straight path, the brackets that hold the training wheels and back wheel onto the bike have gotten all warped outward and split metal just barely holding together by half the piece which also haz the training wheels nearly obsolete due to the fact that they are literally folding out and upwards. Huffy has been trying to dodge the warranty and has already closed one ticket and spent over 2 weeks on the other as of now

No one hurt Made Apr 3, 2024, sent to the company Apr 8, 2024, published by CPSC Apr 22, 2024
The product, in the report: the product is a kids bike, with training wheels. It is has unicon seat and pink accents. Not sure on the size - but it fits my 4 year old daughter pefectly.
Ordered a kids bike for our 4 year old daughter off of Amazon. It is a huffy bike. Followed instructions for setup but the handlebars kept popping off. When you would tighten the collar the internal piece that olds it in place stops holding. The handle bars do not stay in place, this is dangerous as it can pop off while riding causing being out of control or falling off.

I bought a huffy rock it bike from Walmart that came with a label saying that no tools were needed and that it was easy to put together. It came with the bike, body, a separate wheel piece for the front, handlebars, and two training wheels. The pieces were supposed to pop in the place and lock however, they do not. The pieces come out with any movement. The handlebars pull out, riding it, the front wheel falls off, the training wheels do not lock in the place and come off very easily. This is a hazard and has fallen apart, while my son was riding it

No one hurt Made Dec 11, 2023, sent to the company Dec 14, 2023, published by CPSC Dec 29, 2023
The product, in the report: Many bikes of similar construction. Has a plastic headset (black or white, polyethelene perhaps) with a spring loaded push-button securing the handlebar stem to the bicycle steerer tube. Insufficient attention and no redundancy to keep the flimsy push-button in place. Bike with this plastic knob and blind riveted plastic retainer headset all seem to have this problem.
The handlebar of this bike model detaches unpredictably. Properly assembled, with some shaking, the handlebar dislodges from the steerer tube on the bike. Found during preparation of Christmas Give-Away Event.

No one hurt Made Nov 30, 2023, sent to the company Dec 19, 2023, published by CPSC Jan 4, 2024
The product, in the report: Walmart, Huffy kids bikes 12-1/2” wheels to 20” wheels using a plastic headset, threaded insert held in place with a blind rivet, and a spring loaded push botton to secure the one-peince handlebar and stem to the fork steerer tube.
made this video to describe a problem with Walmart kids bikes. [REDACTED]
Last month I noticed this when a father brought a bike to Fix Your Bike Day and when picking up the bike, the handlebar detached from the bike. It didn’t clue me into being a problem that it was since I quickly reattached the handlebar. This bike had a plastic headset, with a rivet holding a threaded piece connecting it to the handlebar stem.
Last week, I was contacted by a local nonprofit to assist them with dome donated bikes. There were ten bikes, and while arranging them on the shelves, one of the bikes fell off the second level while I was still holding the handlebar. All ten has a plastic headset. This design if you can call it that uses a spring loaded push-button to keep the handlebar attached to the bicycle. When you tighten the threaded nut by hand to take the slack out of the headset, it aids to help release the spring loaded push button. How dangerous it that? Hugely.
I don’t know how many years Walmart, Huffy and other stores have been selling this type of bike.

No one hurt Made Nov 30, 2022, sent to the company Dec 2, 2022, published by CPSC Dec 16, 2022
The product, in the report: Child’s bicycle with 12” wheels and training wheels
I bought a Huffy kid’s bike from Walmart. It has a manufaturing defect where part of the front fork is 3/4 in too long. This causes the front fork and wheeel to not securely attach to the handlebars when assembed. The problem is not readily apparent after assembly, creating the danger that a child will ride the bike and the front wheel will detach, possibly causing injury. Luckily, I was able to locate the defect before anyone rode the bike.

No one hurt Made Aug 8, 2022, sent to the company Aug 25, 2022, published by CPSC Sep 9, 2022
The product, in the report: Bicycle (Two bicycles)
Caller is reporting that the handlebars of the bicycle is unstable and comes apart. She stated that they are put together with a plastic joint that is not durable. She stated that they have tighten the hand each time the 4 year old kids ride the bike for a few mins. She stated that the bike handles is unsafe because they can come while they are riding causing serious injuries.
(8/8/22) The manufacturer was contacted and the customer service rep advised her to use plumber’s tape. Caller feels that these bikes should be taken off the market due to the potential danger it poses.
The handlebar stem slides down into the front of the main bicycle frame. There is a plastic joint that screws down, to tighten the handlebars onto the frame. As the bikes are being ridden, the plastic joint works loose. We retighten that joint several times during a short period of riding. The handlebars become so loose to the point they could fall apart. We constantly stop our grandchildren while they are riding, just to tighten the joint. When the handle bars come loose, it affects the steering, and God forbid if they would fall apart. Fortunately we discovered the issue quickly and have stayed on top of it, only to realize how dangerous this is. I called Huffy Company to report the problem only too be told to apply plumbers tape to the threads of the joint. My husband tried to apply the tape, but because the design on how its put together, it is difficult, because there is a rivet in the way, that doesn’t enough threads to place the tape on. We wish we could send you a video on how dangerous this design is. My husband then used plyers to tighten the joint down, and it still loosend up.
Unfortunately, our daughter purchased “2” 12 in bicycles made by Huffy with the same design flaw. When her children were smaller, we had the same issues with these bikes, but the kids didn’t ride them much since they were just learning to ride and had training wheels. We were stupid enough to go out and buy “2” bigger bikes , when the kids no longer needed the training wheels and had out grown them. Buying more Huffy bikes was stupid on our part because we now know what a very dangerous design flaw these bikes have. Four (4) Huffy bikes with the same issue is no coincidence. Huffy’s simple solution with applying plumbers tape is a joke. No more Huffy bikes for this family!

The product, in the report: Huffy S2000 Strider 10 Speed Blue 26” bicycle
I have a Huffy S2000 Strider 10 speed with Yoshikawa YSB 4-F brake lever. The Right brake lever has plastic that has three large cracks in it and the brakes don’t function properly.
https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/1993/Huffy-Bicycle-Company-Recalls-20-Inch-24-Inch-And-26-Inch-Bicycles
Is my bike included in this recall. It isn’t listed, but sounds like the brakes I have are plastic and have cracks in the Yoshikawa 4-F brakes and maybe should be listed in the bikes with this problem.

The product, in the report: Huffy Parkside Bicycle
Regarding a Huffy Parkside bicycle. The left pedal arm came off suddenly without warning. Upon inspection, I determined that the attaching bolt had broken. This happened on acceleration when I was applying a lot of force to the pedal, which is not unusual for a bike rider. After examining other bikes, I realized that the design has been changed. Older bikes had a one piece STEEL crank arm, and the new ones have a three piece design with aluminum pedal arms. Huffy sent me a new bolt, but it keeps coming loose. I have to tighten it every day before I ride. An internet search revealed that I am not the only one with this problem. When the incident occurred, I almost went down but managed to stay up. Others may not be so lucky.

Luckily, child was not seriously injured since he was sitting down at the time but got a good case of road rash from the incident. Bike was less than 1 year old.
Huffy customer service was good about sending a replacement part for us to repair it.

The product, in the report: 20” Huffy “Rock It” Red boys bicycle 50422 14212 P
Hello, My son was riding his 20” “Huffy Rock It” bike in our drive way this evening when the front tire assembly and steering handle came off (in two separate pieces). There were no screws that came loose, it seems like the welding just gave out. He did not run into anything, or wreck the bike. Thank goodness he was just starting to get going or it could have been a major injury! I do not currently see a recall on this bicycle. I just wanted to make sure I was not missing it. This was a Christmas gift to him from a grandparent in 2013, and he only rides it in the summer. I know they purchased it at Walmart, but not sure the exact of purchase. We camp often, which includes riding our bikes in hilly areas. I hate to imagine what would have happened if it came apart as he was going down a hill (or any faster on level ground). I just wanted to check to see if there was a recall, and wanted to bring the issue to your attention. I hope you understand my concern. Thank you, [REDACTED]

Duncan Engineers has been retained to examine a Huffy So Sweet 12-inch Girls Bicycle Model22032 Serial Number 21812 22712Y that is manufactured by the Huffy Corporation and is under warranty. My Client complains that this Huffy bicycle fell over when the training wheels were removed and when this bicycle is stopped with the pedals in the vertical position. We have found that the pedals of this Huffy So Sweet 12-inch Girls Bicycle cannot move forward under these conditions and causes this Huffy Girls Bicycle to fall over on its side causing potential injury to the child. A label that was supplied with this Huffy Girls Bicycle requiring the child to read an “Owners Manual” and claimed that this Owner’s Manual was available at www.huffy.com. I have repeatedly searched the huffv.com web site using variations of “So Sweet” and “Model22032” but could not find an Owners Manual posted on that web site. A Google search showed that many people from around the World were looking for Huffy Owners Manuals for different Huffy Bicycles but that nobody could find one. I have repeatedly asked the Huffy Corporation to provide a hard copy of the Owners Manual for this Huffy So Sweet 12-inch Girls Bicycle. I have also repeatedly asked the Huffy Corporation to provide any service notes or repair information on this Huffy So Sweet 16-inch Girls Bicycle. The Huffy Corporation responded by providing a link to a manual that was not the Owner’s Manual. Despite repeated requests, the Huffy Corporation has refused to provide any information on this Huffy bicycle. The Huffy Corporation’s failure to provide an Owners manual with each new bicycle is a violation of Chapter 19.86 RCW. The failure of the Huffy Corporation to provide an online Owners manual as advertised on the label of this Huffy So Sweet 12-inch Girls Bicycle is a violation of Chapter 19.86 RCW. The failure ofthe Huffy Corporation to provide any service information to evaluate the safety ofthis Huffy So Sweet 12-inch Girls Bicycle is a violation of Chapter 19.86 RCW. The failure of the Huffy Corporation to cooperate with our investigation into the safety issues of this Huffy So Sweet 12-inch Girls Bicycle is a violation of Chapter 19.86 RCW. I respectfully ask your Office to investigate any safety issues with children’s bicycles that are sold by The Huffy Corporation.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jan 22, 2013, sent to the company Jan 31, 2013, published by CPSC Feb 22, 2013
The product, in the report: Pink bike with training wheels and carriage.
The Huffy 16” Disney Princess bike has tipped over on multiple occasions since 26 Dec 12. The bike has training wheels that keep the bike upright. However, when turning the handlebar 30 degrees to the left or right the front wheel allows the bike to tip over with the riding toddler. I believe this is due to the bike not having a handlebar mechanism that sets a limit on a turn radius.

The product, in the report: 20 inch boys bike
My grandson was riding his Huffy bike home from school when the right pedal separated from the crank. His foot hit the ground, but luck was with him and he was not injured. THe cause of the pedal separation was a failure of the crank where the pedal is screwed into the crank. It was a clean break with no sign of bending.
While there was no injury there most certainly could have been if he was riding fast.

Two products are being reported: 1) Huffy Cranbrook Women’s Bicycle 26” purchased from Walmart in New Orleans 2) Huffy Cranbrook Men’s Bicycle 26” purchased from Walmart in New Orleans.
Both bicycles have suffered, over 3 months since purchase multiple incidences of the bicycle chain falling off, preventing the rider from breaking or speeding up to avoid traffic. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but being unable to stop or accelerate can lead to potentially fatal accidents.
