The product, in the report: Electra Beach Cruiser 3 speed full size with Sugar Skull paint
I am the only owner and rider of this Electra. I was riding in town. Approaching a red light with active cross traffic. My brakes would not engage. I had to drag my shoes in order stop and to avoid being hit by car.

The product, in the report: A lightweight commuter bike inspired by the stylish European bike scene, the Loft features minimalist design but is built to handle the rigors of the streets. Standard Electra Loft 7D bicycle, non-powered. Incident involved the Electra Alloy rim brakes on the bicycle.
I was riding my Electra Loft bicycle with my 1 year old son when the brakes failed. The brakes failed because the metal brake calipers (the U shaped device that holds the brake pads in place over the rims) snapped in half. This happened when the brake levers were squeezed, resulting in the metal calipers snapping in half and completely losing all stopping tension on the front brakes. The bicycle was purchased brand new from an authorized retailer and has less than 30 miles on it. Prior to this, the brakes have never been damaged or otherwise in contact with a hard surface. The brake calpiers snapped entirely as a result of the brake lever being pulled.
