Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Sep 20, 2013, sent to the company Sep 30, 2013, published by CPSC Nov 12, 2013
The product, in the report: Adult 21-speed hybrid bicycle
While bicycle riding with a Senior Citizens group, one of the riders dropped off the shoulder of the road and fell from her bicycle. Although contact with the ground resulted in minimal injuries to the ride, her entanglement with the bicycle itself resulted in a severe injury to her right leg.
The chain guard on the bicycle had an extremely sharp circumferential edge - like a meat cutter blade - that rotated into the back of the rider’s leg and left two very deep gashes.
The rider received first aid treatment at the site and subsequently had several stitches applied by a medical professional.
The sharp edge on the bicycle chain guard is an extreme safety hazard that can and should be eliminated.
