  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Apr 9, 2026, sent to the company Apr 14, 2026, published by CPSC Apr 28, 2026

The product, in the report: Cannondale SuperX LAB71 gravel bicycle (2025 model), high-end carbon fiber frame designed for gravel racing and mixed-terrain riding. Size 56. The bicycle is marketed as a premium performance gravel bike intended for competitive and recreational use on gravel, dirt, and mixed surfaces. The frame is constructed from lightweight carbon fiber and designed to handle typical gravel riding conditions, including uneven terrain and muddy sections.

While riding a Cannondale SuperX LAB71 during a recon of an official gravel race course, under normal riding conditions, the frame suffered sudden structural damage after passing through a short muddy section. The damage occurred without any crash, impact, or misuse.

The bicycle was being used as intended for gravel riding, and race organizers confirmed that the terrain at that specific moment was not unusually harsh, despite some muddy sections.

The damage resulted in significant material loss and exposed carbon fibers, compromising the structural integrity of the frame. This created a serious safety hazard, as the frame could have failed catastrophically while riding at speed. Cannondale later confirmed that the bicycle was no longer safe to ride.

This incident raises concerns about the safety and durability of the product under normal and intended use conditions.

The product, in the report: The seatpost was the factory stock carbon fiber seatpost for a 2018 Cannondale Synapse, full carbon fiber road bike.

I was riding a late model Cannondale Synapse road bicycle and road over a very small bump in the road. The clamping mechanism on the seat post failed and snapped in two, causing the saddle to completely fall off the bike. Fortunately I was able to control the bike and did not crash. Unlike the majority of seat post designs on the market, this seatpost used a minimal amount of material for the clamp, making it very prone to failure. In addition to using insufficient aluminum for the clamp, the design used a hole drilled through the clamp, making it very weak and susceptible to failure.

Please note that Cannondale has discontinued this design and replaced it with a much more robust design that uses a single large upper clamp instead of two separate thin upper clamps.

If the clamp failure occured on a downhill or when riding in heavy traffic, the instantaneous seatpost failure (with no warning) could cause the rider to crash and sustain serious or life threatening injuries.

The product, in the report: Cannondale kids bike, 20”, 6 speed, blue. UPC code 886603462704, Serial # YG35246, Product Code C58401U100S

In March 2022, we purchased a Cannondale kids bike from our local dealer. This dealer bike shop has since has been sold to Coastal E-bikes, [REDACTED], Carolina Beach, NC 28428. The purchase cost was $600.

There have been numerous problems with this bike, despite very light use by our 6-year old grandson (recreational, street riding only and perhaps 20 rides in total).

The first issue was a lock-up of the steering column, where it would not turn, causing a crash alongside the road that could have resulted in a serious accident had a car passed at that moment. The original bike shop fixed that issue and charged us $50. No talk about warranty.

The second problem was the chain coming off and the gears slipping. The bike shop had by then changed ownership and, graciously, agreed to look at it. They tuned up the bike and fixed the chain at a $75 charge. It’s been off twice since then, causing unexpected falls forward over the steering wheel. The bike is no longer under warranty.

The third problem was again the chain coming off and suddenly, mid ride, losing any gear engagement at all, causing my grandson to crash and, luckily again, he came away with just bumps and bruises.

This bike isnt functioning and we do not trust it for our grandson to ride it safely. He is very disappointed, of course, as it was a birthday present and his first real bike. Selling it is not an option, as we wouldnt get $50 for it, if that, and I do not want another child getting hurt.

Contacted Cannondale, received a claim number, no response for a month. I called and was told “someone from management would look at it”, that was 2 weeks ago. I called today and they simply did not react while I was explaining the situation, put the call on “hold” until I hung up.

The product, in the report: road bicycle, 58cm, System Six, R154505 (2007 model)

I have an older Cannondale bicycle bought used in in 2013 with 2400 miles on it. I stored the bike until 2019 and then began riding it. In 2022 the arm on the carbon crankset broke at the pedal attachment and nearly caused a crash. I replaced the carbon arm with a metal arm and continued using the bike until the other carbon arm on the right hand side broke at the same place. While searching for a replacement part I discovered a safety recall #07-206 for Cannondale “bicycles with carbon cranksets.” I took the broken parts and bicycle to Orange Cycle, the local Cannondale dealer for evaluation. I was told that the Cannondale recall was for a heat treat issue on the aluminum tube in the crank arm assembly and not the integrity of the carbon arms. My concern is that the recall hazard: “The bicycle’s crankset could break, posing a fall hazard to the user.” actually did happen two times and Cannondale is okay with it. The recall requires me to “stop using the recalled product immediately” which I did because it is broken and unusable, but even if I replace the broken parts with exact replacement parts I am afraid of an accident. Have there been other accidents related to this recall? Is the recall only intended to address the heat treated tube or is the more important carbon arm breakage also included? I am concerned about the real probability of riders falling when fatigue causes the pedal to break from the carbon arm after many repetitive cycles.

The product, in the report: Cannondale Brake lever produced by Promax and installed by Cannondale on a Quick 24” Kids Bike. See attached photos. Model 2021 Cannondale Quick 24’ Kids Bike - Acid Red UPC 884603785706

Our daughter (7 YO), was seriously injured riding a Cannondale Quick 24” bicycle, when she fell and was struck and impaled by the bike’s brake lever (made by Promax), in her in her left lower abdomen, causing a left flank penetrating wound w/ minimal intrusion into the peritoneum. As a result of this injury she required emergency treatment. A close inspection of the brake lever (and comparison to other bikes), revealed a clear design defect. This brake lever, as designed, will cause serious injury with any fall and contact. In my daughter’s accident, this brake handle acted like a dagger and easily pierced her skin causing injury. When we compared the other children’s bikes (pictures attached) and our older Cannondale’s, the design flaw is clear.

my son bought a Cannondale ‘s bike helmet - model “ QUICK” in Aug2015 from HK retailer. He took it for 1st cycling in Taiwan ...but found the interior foam lining was cracked after a minor incident with slight impacting with ground floor. I personal think the foam material or construction is under level ...and so cause the material to get breakage in ease. This definitely will harmful to consumer by the end due to this NON-protective product. ...

The product, in the report: Cannondale Quick SL3 hybrid bicycle

The cable from the front brake levers to the tire brake comes out of the brake lever on the handlebar and when braking hard in some cases gets pinched and ends up locking the front brakes in a braked position and won’t release resulting in the possibility of going over the handlebars. Mine was in the locked position after an accident when applying the front brake and rear brakes in traffic. This happened again after having the bike tuned up when using both brakes to a full stop. The bike shop says it’s something that I need to watch out for, but I think the front cable should be locked into the brake lever just like the rear one so this can’t happen. I know not to brake with only the front brake and only use it in conjunction with the rear brake. I rarely use the front brake on this bike for fear of it will lock the wheel.

Since I haven’t received a reply to my attached letter in June to Cannondale it appears there isn’t a fix for this problem or they just don’t care. It’s possible that my bike was assembled incorrectly regarding this problem, but since they won’t reply to my letter and the local bike shop doesn’t seem to know of a solution, I wanted to file this report in case there other incidents like mine.

The product, in the report: Cannondale Carbon SI Crankset, manufactured by Full Speed Ahead (FSA) Bike Components. Recalled under Release #07-206

There is a current recall on Cannondale carbon Crankset (Release #07-206). I have the same crankset, and the pedal insert has detached from the carbon crankset. This causes a safety risk as identified by my bike shop.

I called Cannondale HQ and they were aware of the problem, but pointed to the manufacturer of the crank set, Full Speed Ahead (FSA) Bike Components. Cannondale said I should call FSA to have the crankset replaced. Cannondale acknowledged the recall on this product, but said it was for other defects. They declined to replace the pedal for the defect that I identified.

I called Full Speed Ahead (FSA) Bike Components and they acknowledged the defect that was recalled under Release #07-206, but deferred any other defects/safety risks to Cannnondale since they were the assembler of the bike.

Obviously there are multiple defects with this product. I ask that my crankset be replaced with one that does not have any defects.

Currently, the bike is not operational. If I were to operate the bike with the current defect, I run the risk of the pedal falling off causing a wreck.
