The product, in the report: Burley Coho XC single-wheel bike trailer
While inspecting my Burley Coho XC single-wheel bike trailer in my parking area, I discovered that one of the two latch mechanisms that secure the trailer to my bicycle had failed. The internal spring no longer locks the ball connector, making it impossible to attach the trailer safely. The trailer was being used by me (an adult rider) under normal cycling conditions. No injuries occurred, but the failure could have caused the trailer to detach while riding, creating a serious risk of crash or injury to the rider and/or damage to the trailers cargo. Burley acknowledged that the problem is due to a dimensional fault in the original spring. They provide a Latch Repair Kit with a redesigned spring. However, no recall or customer notification was made. They also advise repairing only the failed side, even though both sides use the same defective design. The repair kits ship without assembly instructions, making safe installation difficult.

The product, in the report: Burley d’lite bike trailer - green color
My husband took our young son on a bike ride. Our son was being pulled behind my husband’s bike in a Burley d’lite bike trailer. While on a walking/biking path and entering onto the street to head home, the bike trailer disconnected from the bike, causing the bike trailer to tip over and breaking some parts in the process. Our son had a minor bump on his face from hitting the side of the trailer and road underneath while tipped over. Our son was wearing a helmet and properly restrained at the time of the accident.
