No one hurt Made Sep 1, 2022, sent to the company Sep 14, 2022, published by CPSC Sep 28, 2022
The product, in the report: mens, road bicycle
The seat has broken off the bike, on 2 different occasions. The bolt that holds the seat to the post, snapped in both instances.
The consumer was not injured, but was riding the bike both times.
7/29/2022: The first incident occurred.
The consumer returned the bike to the dealer and their staff inserted a replacement bolt. Their representatives also told the consumer that they had never heard of this and it would never happen again.
8/10/2022: The replacement bolt broke, while the consumer was on the bike.
The consumer went to the firm’s site and filled out their contact form. He received an acknowledgement approximately a week later, but never heard from them again. The dealer got involved and told the consumer that they tried to contact the firm as well, but also never received a reply.
This is a $20,000 bicycle and the consumer races competitively. This situation presents and extreme hazard.
I would like to add, I am a competitive cyclist, I have ridden thousands and thousands of miles on road bikes, a seat snapping off the seat post has never happened, this happening TWICE is EXTREMELY ALARMING ......1 was just starting a training ride during both incidents, I walked the bike home each time, and I NEVER EVER tinkered with the seat ............... if this had happened during a descent or at a higher speed, possibly in a race, I am certain this would have led to a crash and serious injury, possibly a fatality ....THIS MUST BE LOOKED AT IMMEDIATELY ....
The fact that BMC has ben so nonchalant is also extremely worrisome
