    Incident Description

On January 1, 2026, I received a bicycle purchased through Amazon.com. Upon opening the packaging, I discovered a dangerous concealed object that was not a component of the product or any legitimate packing material.

    Description of Hazard:

The object was a snap-off box cutter blade wrapped in tapea configuration immediately recognizable from my professional background in law enforcement as resembling a improvised edged weapon (commonly referred to as a “prison shank”). The blade was sharp, deliberately concealed within the packaging materials, and positioned in a manner that posed an immediate danger to anyone handling the package.

    Injury Sustained:

While handling the package during routine unboxing, the concealed blade punctured my palm, causing a minor wound. Photographic documentation of object as been retained.

    Additional Safety Concerns:

Beyond the immediate laceration risk, the deliberate concealment of this blade by an unknown individual raises serious concerns regarding potential biological contamination. The blade may have been previously handled or used, creating a risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens or other infectious agents. The wound constitutes direct blood contact with a foreign object of unknown origin and history.

    ---

    Why This Incident Is Reportable

    1. Deliberate Concealment This was not an accidental manufacturing defect. The blade was intentionally wrapped in tape and hidden within packaging, indicating a willful act by an individual with access to the packaging process. 2. Serious Injury Potential While my injury was relatively minor, this same hazard could cause severe harm or death to a child, elderly person, or anyone unaware of its presence. A blade of this type can easily cause deep lacerations, severed tendons, or puncture wounds to vital areas. 3. Imported Consumer Product This product was manufactured in China and sold to U.S. consumers through a major retailer. If this incident reflects a patternwhether from this manufacturer, facility, or supply chainAmerican consumers are at ongoing risk. 4. Potential Criminal Activity The nature of this concealment suggests possible criminal intent, whether as an act of sabotage, negligence rising to recklessness, or deliberate harm directed at consumers.

    ---

Actions Already Taken: 1. Amazon Notification I have submitted a formal complaint to Amazon detailing this incident and requesting: - Investigation into the source of the defect - Formal notification to the manufacturer - Identification of responsible parties 2. Manufacturer Notification I have prepared formal correspondence to the Chinese manufacturer demanding an internal investigation, identification of the responsible party, and a corrective action plan. Email sent January 5, 2026 to [help@[REDACTED].com] 3. Evidence Preservation All physical evidence (blade, tape, packaging) and photographic documentation has been retained and secured.

    ---

Requested CPSC Action: 1. Log this incident in the CPSC database to establish a record and identify any similar reports involving this manufacturer, product, or supply chain. 2. Investigate the importer/manufacturer to determine whether this is an isolated incident or part of a broader pattern. 3. Coordinate with U.S. Customs and Border Protection if warranted, given the import of a consumer product containing a concealed weapon-like object. 4. Notify me of any findings, related complaints, or actions taken.

    Correspondence with Amazon is below:

    Dear Amazon Customer Service,

Concerning: Safety Hazard Sharp Metal Protrusion in Recent Amazon Delivery

I am writing to report a serious safety concern with a package I recently received.

Upon opening my delivery, I discovered a sharp metal object protruding from the packagingwhat my background in law enforcement would immediately recognize as resembling a prison shank (photo attached - snap-off box cutter blade wrapped in tape). This was not merely an aesthetic defect. The object was sharp enough to puncture my palm as I handled the package, leaving a small wound.

This incident raises significant concerns about quality control, both in manufacturing and fulfillment. A hazard of this nature could cause serious injury to any customer, and the consequences could be far more severe for a child or elderly person.

I respectfully request the following actions: 1. Investigation Please examine your records to identify the source of this defect, whether it originated during manufacturing, packaging, or shipping. 2. Manufacturer notification If this product was sourced from a manufacturing facility in China, I ask that they be formally notified of this incident and requested to provide an explanation and a corrective action plan. 3. Employee review If the hazard was introduced during manufacture, the responsible party should be identified and appropriately addressed to prevent recurrence.

I have been a loyal Amazon customer and trust that you take safety matters seriously. I look forward to your prompt response.

    Sincerely,

    [REDACTED]
