  1. First aid

Made Jul 13, 2026, sent to the company Jul 17, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 31, 2026

The product, in the report: Product Name: BABY JOY Rabbit Pilot Sporty Kids Bike Product Description: Children’s bicycle designed for young children approximately 4 years of age. Brand: BABY JOY Bike Type: Kids Bike Age Range: Kids (recommended for approximately 4 years old) Color: Green Wheel Size: 14 inches Number of Speeds: 1 Frame Material: Carbon Steel Suspension Type: Rigid Special Features: Adjustable saddle and adjustable handlebar Included Components: Training wheels, front storage basket, bell, hand brake, and coaster brake Purpose: Children’s bicycle intended for recreational riding by young children.

The product involved was a BABY JOY Rabbit Pilot Sporty Kids Bike, 14 Inch Child Bike for 4 Years Old with Adjustable Height, Training Wheels, Storage Basket, Handbrake & Coaster Brake, Kids Bicycle for Girls and Boys. This incident happened twice while my 4-year-old son was using the bicycle normally under adult supervision. The first time, his ankle became trapped in the gap between the pedal rod (crank/pedal arm) and the bicycle frame. We were able to carefully free his leg on our own, but we noticed that the design allowed his ankle to become stuck in this area. The second incident happened today and was more serious. While my son was riding and pedaling the bicycle, his ankle again became trapped between the pedal rod and the bicycle frame. This time, we were unable to free his leg despite multiple careful attempts. He was in severe pain and cried continuously while we tried to safely remove his ankle for approximately 30 minutes. Because we could not release his leg safely, we called 911 for emergency assistance. Firefighters responded and were able to rescue him by freeing his trapped ankle. This took an additional hour. As a result of this incident, my son suffered bruises, cuts, and swelling to his ankle. He also experienced significant emotional distress from being trapped, being in pain, and requiring emergency responders to rescue him. I am reporting this incident because the bicycle appears to have a potential ankle entrapment hazard during normal use. Since this occurred twice with the same child while using the product as intended, I am concerned that other children may experience similar or more serious injuries.
