From: [REDACTED] Sent: Monday, September 01, 2014 2:18 PM To: Customer Service Subject: Coral Mist Girl’s Bike Safety Concern

I am writing today to alert you to a serious safety concern which I believe warrants a recall. My daughter owns an Avigo Coral Mist girl’s bike which we purchased from Toys R Us for her birthday one year. She had a bike accident because the handlebar grip slipped off causing her to lose her control of the bike and fall. We noticed an oily substance coating the inside of the handlebar grip and metal underneath. I cleaned both with soap and water, removing all of this substance that I could, however, in just a couple weeks the substance returned. It appears this substance is actually being released from the handlebar grips themselves. My daughter had another serious fall last week as a result of the grip sliding off. I would just remove the grips, but then that leaves behind a sharp edged end of the handlebars. I can see this has been a problem for others because if you Google Avigo Coral Mist...the bikes that people are trying to sell almost all say they are selling them without the grips. I would like to know how this problem can be rectified, and I am first giving the company the opportunity to issue a recall and fix the problem. If this is not done, I will immediately report this issue to the proper children’s consumer safety channels. My goal is to prevent any additional children from being injured. I have NEVER owned a bike that deteriorates in this manner.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this very serious matter.

    Sincerely, Dr. [REDACTED] ____________________________________________

Under normal use, this bicycle’s rear tire continues to randomly lock up, causing the bike to brake suddenly. My son has been thrown from the bike multiple times! There are no conditions that cause this to happen regularly, it happens completely at random.

There are multiple other customer reviews on the Toys-R-Us website referencing this exact same problem with their bikes.

The caller stated that her 4 year old son had placed his head through the cables which are attached to the handle bars for the hand brakes. During this time he was unable to pull his head through, his father had to remove the front cables from the brakes to free the child. This incident could have caused a strangulation. There was no injury.

The consumer stated that she would never thought that anyone would be thinking to do that. She pointed out that the item was misuse but still has a potential risk for a safety hazard.
