Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: 3T Aura Pro Handlebars on 2013 Cervélo P3 Ultegra Bicycle

On May 7, 2013, I was riding my 2013 Cervélo P3 Ultegra Bicycle. As I was riding, I heard a snapping noise and my hands violently flew up as both handlebars broke away from the base bar. My bike veered out of control and I flung forward, dragging the bike with me and sliding down the road on the right side of my body. I slid a number of feet down the road and ended on the other side of the road. I was unable to move much and was bleeding heavily. I was able to reach my cell phone in my jersey pocket with my left hand and called for help.

At the emergency room, I was greeted with a wheel chair and taken back for immediate treatment. X-rays were taken of the right side of my body. I was treated for abrasions to my right knee, hip, and leg, abrasions to my right elbow, contusions to my right elbow, contusions to my right knee, and contusions to my right shoulder.

I searched for product information on the internet the following morning, which is when I first learned of the recall on the 3T Aura Pro Handlebars on my 2013 Cervélo P3 Ultegra Bicycle. I then reported my accident to the bicycle retailer. The retailer indicated they were in contact with the bicycle and handle bar manufacturers.
