The product, in the report: 26” Women’s Schwinn Riverside 7 speed Bicycle Black with fancy etched designs, also pink and white trim on tires
09/13/14 6:51pm central date of this report. Made a cash purchase for$199.00 on July24, 2014 for a 26” Women’s Schwinn Riverside 7 Speed Bicycle at the Kmart Store#3777 at 404 Schilling Drive, Dundas, MN 55019. 507-645-8484 Took the bike out for a ride for the first time since purchase date yesterday, 09/12/14 around 3pm to that kmart store to do some more shopping. No problems on the way there, about 2 and half mile ride. Left the store about 6:30pm, after riding about mile and a half, switched gears normally, and that’s when the chain broke in half, and the gear assembly broke and was interlodged in the spokes of the back tire. It all happened so fast too. Looking down, could see that the gear assembly was made of cheap plastic and had snapped, also noticed the bike wasn’t even walkable back home due to the snarled jam in the back tire spokes. Luckily, Northfield, MN being friendly, helpful, “people” town, 65 year old woman driving behind me saw what happened and stopped, helped me get the bike in her trunk, and took me home where I parked it in my garage. Didn’t ask her for her phone# because I want to seem intrusive because she already helped me a lot. Today, after reviewing the “REVIEWS” left on the kmart.com website by others consumers who had the exactsame experience, as me, I am thouroghly convinced that these bikes are extremely dangerous and should be recalled due to cheap, shoddy, plastic parts. Wish I would have read the reviews first, then wouldn’t have purchased this bike, Grew up with Schwinn having an excellent reputation, so didn’t feel the need to check. Kmart.com says there’s more in stock at that location, Point is, if one of these is cheaply made. (Lemon), they all are and are not fit or safe for ANYONE at all to ride. The deception is the gorgeous “retro look and colors from early 60’s).
