Emergency room Made Jun 4, 2015, sent to the company Jun 15, 2015, published by CPSC Jun 29, 2015
The product, in the report: dirt bike orange and white in color
I was riding my 2013 KTM dirt bike at an ORV park. While going down a trail in first gear, I blipped the throttle as anyone would do (having a good time) and after I let off the throttle, I felt the bike continue to accelerate. Alarmed by this, I forced the throttle grip forward to turn the throttle off, but it continued accelerating. As the bike went into it’s powerband, it wheeled up. I thought to find the kill switch, but decided to grab the clutch because I could do that without looking for the kill switch.
The front wheel came down, the bike revved up in neutral and my foot hit a rock on the trail and broke my leg, I then was ejected from the bike.
I broke my right leg tibia and fibula in a spiral fracture meaning several breaks, this required surgery and a titanium rod/screws.

Emergency room Made Jun 10, 2013, sent to the company Jun 24, 2013, published by CPSC Jul 9, 2013
The product, in the report: 2012 KTM SX 150 used for dirt biking
On April27, 2013, I bought a new 2012 KTM SX 150 {VIN No. [REDACTED]) for my son. This was not his first dirt bike and he is an experienced rider. After about five hours or riding time on the dirt bike, my son told me the throttle had stuck wide open on him. I checked it for dirt or damage and made sure the cable was not getting caught on something when he turned the handle bars to the left or right. I found nothing out of place or any damage to the dirt bike and the throttle was working fine. On Saturday, May 18, 2013, he was riding at a dirt bike track in Seaford, Delaware and had no problems with the throttle. The next day, on Sunday, May 19, 2013, while in a race at the same dirt bike track, the throttle got stuck on him again and threw him off the back of the dirt bike and he was sent by ambulance to the hospital. A father of one of the boys my son was racing with retrieved my son’s dirt bike from the track. He told me the throttle was stuck wide open and when he turned the throttle it “clicked” and sprung back to zero. I contacted Mike’s KTM, a dealer for KTM motor bikes, and inquired if he had heard of any problems with the throttles sticking on this model. He informed me that there is a recall on the throttle on 2013 models; therefore, I bought a new throttle assembly {same part and part number) and installed it on the dirt bike. Test driving in our back yard, once again the new throttle stuck and he was thrown from the dirt bike before the dirt bike crashed, hurting his shoulder. Obviously there is a problem with the 2012 KTM SX 150 model as well.
