Emergency room Made Apr 20, 2026, sent to the company Apr 23, 2026, published by CPSC May 7, 2026
The product, in the report: AMYET G60 Peak 1500W Electric Bike, 20” Fat Tire E-Mountain Bikes, 48V 20Ah 32MPH Ebike for Adults Full Suspension UL2849
I am filing a complaint regarding a serious safety incident involving a defective Amyet eBike purchased on November 28, 2025 through Walmart.
The eBike was first used in late February 2026. Shortly after beginning use, I reported multiple safety concerns to the manufacturer, including battery failure (draining within approximately 1 mile) and brake malfunction (loud noise and reduced stopping performance). Despite repeated reports throughout March 2026, the company failed to identify or address the safety concerns in a meaningful way. I was asked to troubleshoot the issues myself, and an incorrect replacement battery was sent, which did not resolve the problem.
This reflects a failure in customer service and product safety response, as the concerns raised were not treated as potential safety risks requiring proper investigation or corrective action.
On March 31, 2026, while my son was riding the eBike and applying the brakes, the front wheel detached completely, causing a severe fall and direct facial impact. He was taken to the emergency room and sustained serious injuries, including severe facial abrasions, shoulder injury, and hand injuries. He is also experiencing ongoing emotional trauma, including fear of riding bikes, pain, and psychological distress, and has missed school due to recovery and medical care.
Following the incident, when I reported the failure, the manufacturer dismissed the issue and attributed it to parental responsibility, citing a warning that the eBike should not be operated by individuals under 16 years of age. This response did not address the mechanical failure itself. The issue is a product safety failure involving front wheel detachment during braking, which is unrelated to rider age or supervision and would present a safety risk to any rider.
The handling of both the pre-incident safety complaints and the post-incident report demonstrates a lack of appropriate safety assessment and an attempt to deflect responsibility rather than address a potential product defect.
The incident has resulted in significant physical injury, emotional distress, and medical expenses.
