The product, in the report: Trek Mountain Bike
Front tire suddenly dislodged from bike while my son was riding down the driveway, serial number WTU176JV1688 T and Trek MARLIN 5 XS 27.5 RD 2022-2023. Substantial mouth and teeth damage/trauma occurred. Bike was brought to bike shop to inspect and they believe the bikes quick release mechanism malfunctioned causing the tire to come off suddenly as there were no premeditated causes or events to explain this. Bike drove fine on way to fishing and way home until tire suddenly released in driveway.

Hurt, no treatment Made Aug 25, 2025, sent to the company Aug 28, 2025, published by CPSC Sep 12, 2025
The product, in the report: Trek Top Fuel 5 full-suspension mountain bike (Gen 3, 2024). Aluminum frame, size [your size e.g., Medium], factory drivetrain (Shimano Deore/XT mix, 1x12 speed). Intended for cross-country and trail use.
I purchased a Trek Top Fuel 5 mountain bike (2024 model) that developed a dangerous drivetrain defect. The chain and cassette repeatedly skipped under load, especially in the smallest cogs (10T/12T). This caused sudden loss of pedal engagement and it threw me off. It also nearly threw me off the bike on multiple occasions, including while climbing and while standing.
The product was used as intended for cross-country riding. Despite more than a dozen service visits, multiple drivetrain replacements (3 chains, 2+ cassettes, rear wheel), and tune-ups, the defect persists. Trek and its authorized dealer failed to resolve the issue or provide accurate documentation of repairs.
This defect poses a serious safety risk of ejection/fall, and the lack of durable performance or proper service records makes it impossible to ensure safety.

Emergency room Made Jul 28, 2017, sent to the company Aug 18, 2017, published by CPSC Sep 1, 2017
The product, in the report: Mountain Bike
I was riding on the [REDACTED] in [REDACTED] when suddenly and for no apparent reason the front wheel jammed and came off sending me straight into the ground fracturing my collarbone which will have to be surgically repaired. The front end of my bike is also trashed. While looking for info on Replacement parts,I on the Trek website I saw a link to Safety and Recalls. I clicked on it and was stunned to see a recall for my bikes Quick Release Skewer two years earlier. I had no knowledge of any recall until now. After a Google search I learned how publicized the recall was and about the rider who was paralyzed. That could have been me. I checked the bike again and found a gash on the QR lever along with the bent brake rotor and damaged spokes. There must be many others besides myself who have bikes with this part who are still unaware of this issue.

The product, in the report: Trek Skye S WSD, size 13.5 Mountain Bike
I purchased a new Trek mountain bike and the pedals are dangerously close to the front tire when turning. It is impossible to ride the bike without your shoes contacting the front tire. My son’s foot got caught in the front tire, it was pulled upward between the tire and the front fork, the wheel stopped suddenly and caused him to flip over the handlebars.

First aid Made Jan 19, 2017, sent to the company Feb 6, 2017, published by CPSC Feb 21, 2017
The product, in the report: Trek Superfly 6 - Hardtail mountain bike with disk brakes
I was riding my bike on the Desert Classic trail at South Mountain. As I was picking up speed across a flat sandy section my front tire seized up and I flew over the handlebars. Thankfully my injuries were minimal (Bruises and scratches, possible minor sprain to my left hand)
When I got up to proceed on the trail I found that my front wheel would not move and I realized that the lever was lodged in my front disk brake, my wheel was jammed up against the fork of the bike, and the wheel was not properly seated at the axel.
I took my bike back to the shop (a certified Trek Dealer) where I had had service 3 days before. They promptly identified the recall issue, though they had not noticed or corrected the issue when doing the maintenance. Additionally, I was never alerted to the issue by Trek. They claim to have e-mailed my husband, but there is no record of the communication.

No one hurt Made Oct 11, 2011, sent to the company Dec 16, 2011, published by CPSC Jan 3, 2012
The product, in the report: 26” mountain bike, 24 speed
The 180 lbs., consumer was riding the bicycle on a city street and going downhill when the brakes failed. The consumer was able to stop the bike with his feet and he was not injured.
The brakes were made by Tektro (Model# Novella) and they were sold already assembled on the bike.
The brakes initially began to squeal while in use. The consumer took the bike back to the retailer and they adjusted them. When he took it back home and rode it again, the brakes were still squeaking. The consumer took the bicycle back to the same retailer he purchased it from. The dealer’s technicians cleaned the brakes with alcohol.
The 3rd time the consumer took the bike to Jerry and Sparky (an authorized bicycle service center). The service center’s technicians called the bicycle mfr. and they contacted the brake mfr., who sent out a set of replacement brakes and the service technician installed them.
The consumer rode the bicycle with the replacement brakes and the squeaking sound was gone, but the brakes did not perform as well as they should have. The consumer said that he was riding between 35 and 30 mph, at the time and he believes that if he had hit a vehicle, the accident would have been fatal.
(10/10/11) The consumer returned the bicycle back to the retailer where he purchased it from. The consumer said that every time he takes the bicycle back to the dealer, they clean them with alcohol and claim that they are just dirty.
The consumer believes that the bike is not safe to ride. u went to www.ntbr.com and he said that out of the 31 reviews he read, 28 of them were negative. The consumer said that the mfr. also makes brakes with model # IOX and they present a similar problem, based on reviews that he read.
