I am reporting a hazardous incident. On June 2, 2013, 21-year-old student [REDACTED] received an injury as a result of riding a Trek Mountain Sport bicycle - Model 820, when the front steering mechanism abruptly ejected a plastic cap and a 9.5 inch steel coil spring from the suspension fork (SR Suntour M-2025). This incident occurred while [REDACTED], in the presence of friends, was riding the Trek 820 Mountain Sport bicycle over a bump on a park-maintained trail. The ejected cap and steel spring struck [REDACTED] in the face and neck area. [REDACTED] did not lose control of the bike, crash or fall. The sharp force of the impact lacerated the right side of [REDACTED]’s jaw and he sustained a large abrasion to his right sub-mandibular neck area. [REDACTED]’s incident required medical attention at the Huron Valley - Sinai Hospital Emergency Department and follow up dental work due to a broken tooth.
