The product, in the report: Marzocchi Suspension Fork Model EGS
I have a 1994 Giant Cadex CFM-3 Mountain Bike that was purchased from Mikes’s Bikes in San Rafael, CA.
Recently I discovered the fork crown had cracked because the stanchion tube poked up from the side of the crown while riding. Upon inspection, I determined the fork crown on one side cracked all the way through on the outside radius where the stanchion goes through. In the process of attempting to get more information on the fork, I found your release #95-032. The bolts do go through the crown and the fork has serial number 57 31 93. The fork is identified as a Marzocchi EGS. My research indicates these were manufactured specially for Giant.
Since this bike has never been subject to only very mild off road use on rare occasions, and has never run into anything, it should not have failed, unless there was a latent defect. However, upon closer examination and from a design point, I am not surprised that it failed, since the crack is at the thinnest part of the casting when the most tension is applied
