The product, in the report: Jamis Hijack A1 mountain bike. Red. 650B (27.5-inch) wheel. Size medium. 2018 or 2019 model. https://www.jamisbikes.com/usa/hijacka1.html
I bought a Jamis Hijack A1 mountain bike, new, from my local shop. It came fitted with the SR Suntour Zeron crankset. An mile into my first ride, the left crankarm (the pedal assembly) flew off the bike, together with a small explosion of spacers and lockrings. I wasn’t injured, but could easily have lost control.
After initially ignoring my questions about how this happened, a Jamis rep texted me this over Facebook: “It appears that it was a situation where too many spacers were installed at the factory causing the non drive side arm to not fully seat on the spindle.”
I asked the company if they had known about this issue before shipping the bike, and they did not respond. I also asked how prevalent the issue was, how many bikes were affected by the error, and they did not respond. I asked if they had plans to contact the CPSC, and they did not respond.
