  1. Seen by a doctor or nurse

Made Feb 28, 2021, sent to the company Mar 15, 2021, published by CPSC Mar 29, 2021

The product, in the report: The name of the product as sold to me by Target was “79477910 - Vivere 10ft Solid Pine Arc Stand FSC Certified - Pine Color”. The assembly instruction and warranty booklet calls it “Solid Pine Stand” and “10SPAS-1”.

My Vivere hammock stand, “Solid Pine Stand” listed under 10SPAS-1 on the front of the manual packet, broke after 4.5 nights of use. The product listing on Target.com where purchased stated it “holds up to 450 lbs” and I weighed 389 lbs. the day of the accident. I was using the product and was getting back into the hammock after my sleep had been interrupted by a pet making noise. As I got into the hammock I heard a small crack, but it wasn’t loud enough that I took notice, and as I swung my legs into the hammock, the foot end of the stand snapped in two pieces. The piece at the end of the stand that held the hammock strings in a spread-out configuration flew up and hit me in the face, causing a 3.5-inch laceration above, through, and below my left eyebrow. I was treated at an Urgent Care near my home and received 8 stitches. Upon later examination of the wood, it appears that unlike the moniker “solid pine” led me to believe, it is in fact constructed of thin layers of wood held together with glue.
