The product, in the report: Hyperlight Mountain Gear CrossPeak 2 freestanding tent, white, 2 person tent SPECS Material Dyneema Composite Fabric 0.55, Dyneema Composite Fabric 0.96, No-See-Um Mesh Weight 34.0oz Capacity 1-2 People Shelter Packed Dimensions 10 in x 7 in x 7 in Poles Packed Dimensions 14.5 in x 2.25 in x 2.25 in Vestibule Area 7.26 sq ft x 2 Insert Area 28.4 sq ft Width at Head 48” | 122cm Width at Foot 45” | 114.5cm Length 88 in | 223 cm Height 42 in | 107 cm Country Mexico

Subject: Eye injury hazard from protruding center brow pole on Hyperlite Mountain Gear CrossPeak 2 tent I am submitting this report to document an eye injury hazard that I experienced while using a Hyperlite Mountain Gear CrossPeak 2 backpacking tent under normal conditions. The injury did not occur during setup or takedown. Instead, it occurred while entering the tent through one of the side doors. The CrossPeak 2 uses a horizontal brow pole above each door. Each end of this pole terminates in a rigid aluminum pin that seats into a grommet immediately above the doorway. When the tent is pitched according to the manufacturers instructions, this metal pin protrudes into the doorway opening. The attached photographs document the configuration. The aluminum pole end extends approximately 1 inch beyond the webbing attachment. The pole end is positioned approximately 41.5 inches above ground level. The protruding metal pin lies directly within the normal path of a persons head and face while bending to enter or exit the tent. While entering the tent, I struck my eye on this protruding aluminum pole end. I reviewed the manufacturers product information and found no warning identifying this protrusion as a potential eye hazard or advising users to avoid the area during entry and exit. After reporting the incident to Hyperlite Mountain Gear, I was informed that they were unaware of similar reports. Although they offered store credit (less a 20% restocking fee), they did not indicate that any design review or safety modification would occur. I am submitting this report because I believe the protruding metal pole end presents a foreseeable impact hazard during ordinary use, particularly in low-light conditions when campers are entering or exiting the shelter. I request that this product be evaluated to determine whether the doorway design presents an unreasonable risk of facial or eye injury and whether additional warnings or design modifications are appropriate.
