“I was riding a Hover-1 hoverboard equipped with a tight, correctly installed kart attachment near an apartment building entry road. When I tried to pull in, the hoverboard suffered an electronic glitch where it refused to slow down or brake, and the brakes failed completely. The front wheel attempted to lift up as the machine forced itself forward against my controls. I was forced to steer the runaway machine into the grass to safely bring it to a stop and avoid crashing into a fence.”

Fire Department responded for a report of a fire. Investigation revealed the source of the smoke and fire was a hover board that was charging in the dining room. The board was melted, and the lithium-ion battery pack had exploded and melted. The homeowner states the board is a year old and it was the original manufactured charger that they were using. Homeowner states that they plugged it in to charge and left the house about 45 minutes ago and were not home when the fire started. A neighbor heard the smoke alarms and came to investigate and saw smoke when he opened the door leading to the calling of 911.

My daughter received a Hover-1 Ranger Hoverboard for Christmas. We plugged it in to charge it for a few hours and then unplugged it, per the operation manual. My daughter rode it around for a bit and then turned it off, leaving it unplugged.
We left the house and after a bout 2 hours, my husband got an alert that our smoke detectors were going off at our house. I called my parents to go check on our house because we were 20 minutes away.
They entered our house and could immediately see smoke and smell the electrical burning. They found the hoverboard smoking and my dad pushed it out the door with his feet. Within moments it burst into flames.
Thankfully no injuries occurred and our house is ok, just has a terrible electrical burn smell. We are attempting to clean our carpets, walls and coats that were nearby that all took the brunt of the smoke.
If my parents had gotten to our house even 2 minutes later, our house would have caught fire. This could have been catastrophic. We could have lost our house and our 3 cats.

I own a Hover-1 Ultra and it has the same problems as the current recall on the [REDACTED] which is currently being recalled. Mine also has a manufacture date of 2008 and was purchased from Best Buy. My serial number is ULT-BLU-CH-2008-16222-01410. The item will not turn off when the power button is pushed. Only way to get machine to turn off is to plug it into an outlet for charging.

My child was riding a Hover-1 Hoverboard. During riding, and without warning, the hoverboard stopped working suddenly causing my child to lose their balance and fall off of the hoverboard. The board started beeping and refused to work again. Attempts to calibrate the board following the manufacturer’s supplied information were unsuccessful. The manufacturer acknowledged that it was a defective motherboard in the product. I purchased two Hover-1 Hoverboards as Christmas gifts for my children. Both devices failed the same way within 30 days of first use. Fortunately they were under supervision and in front of my house on the sidewalk when the failure occurred so there no significant injuries, but they could have fallen around traffic or broken a wrist or other bone during the fall if we were less careful.

Knightdale Fire Department Narrative: Knightdale’s Fire Chief arrived on scene to find a hoverboard full involved in the front yard. Engine [REDACTED] arrived and extinguished same with a water can extinguisher. The homeowner stated that the Hoverboard was charging and had began smoking. She unplugged the hoverboard and took it outside. The hoverboard then began to free burn. Wake County Fire Marshalls Office was notified in reference to same but no response was required. I purchased a hover 1 hoverboard on 4/20/2020 for my sons birthday. On 4/26/2020 we unboxed the unit and they played with it until the batteries died . At 6:pm we plugged the unit in in my garage and went inside . At 9:pm we head popping , I went to investigate and found 6 ft flames coming from the hoverboard . We were extremely lucky that it happened while we were awake

The hover-1 hoverboard caught fire and started exploding in the middle of the night at our home. It was charging. Thankfully, our dogs alarmed us and then our fire alarms. We had to leave our home because of smoke. We called the fire department afterwards, because we were able to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher. It did burn our rug and the floor underneath.

My son got a Hoverboard-1 for Christmas 2019 and it caught fire and it my husband hadn’t looked out the window when locking up to go to bed we would not have known it till it was too late. It burnt most of the hoverboard up and it melted the vinyl siding under our carport. I have pictures, a police report and fire report if it needs to be sent in. Please advise on if there is a recall or what I need to do about it.

My daughter received a Hover-1 All-Star hoverboard for Christmas and she has been riding it for the past 10 days. At the time of the incident, she was not riding the scooter and it was not plugged into an outlet to charge. She has never ridden it outside - only indoors. It was sitting in the middle of the room where she had left it the last time she rode it around the house. The room filled with smoke and when my husband tried to pick it up to take it outside, the tire melted off and he burned his hand.
