The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Emergency room

Made Dec 27, 2023, sent to the company Dec 29, 2023, published by CPSC Jan 25, 2024

The product, in the report: A remote that controls an electric skateboard via thumb input. The remote body is black with a red rubber input stick.

I was using the Voyager remote from BKB (Build Kit Boards) to control an electric skateboard. The remote malfunctioned causing the electric skateboard to go full throttle without user input. I had stopped before crossing the street, slowly crossed with a little throttle, and then went full throttle. When I let up on the throttle, it went to “neutral” for a split second before increasing to full. Due to the electric skateboard having bindings, I was unable to jump off. Based on the data collected, I crashed going roughly 35mph, resulting in a fractured neck, fractured back, serious concussion, and road rash. The failure in the remote is either due to the potentiometer failing, the connection between the remote and receiver failing (the receiver is included with the purchase of the remote), or a software problem in the remote. Prior to this, the remote was always treated with care. It had never been dropped, handled roughly, gotten wet, or anything that could have damaged the remote.
