The product, in the report: Volpam 500w electric scooter

    Steering stem fractured in half.

The aluminum steering stem on this scooter fractured completely through at the welded joint above the front fork while my son was riding it. He lost all steering control and went down. He’s fine, but this could easily have been much worse.

The scooter was used as intended, within the weight limit, never modified, never crashed before this. The fracture surface shows a discolored region consistent with a crack that developed over time, with the rest showing clean overload failure meaning this was propagating from a flaw at the weld long before it let go.

The product, in the report: Brand: VOLPAM Model: SP01 Full product name: “Electric Scooter with Suspension, 500W Motor, 28 Miles Range & 22 MPH Speed, Foldable E Scooter with 10” Solid Tire & Dual Brake, Smart APP, Cruise Control, LED Display” Color: Black Frame material: Aluminum Wheel size: 10” solid rubber tires Motor: 500W rear wheel motor Maximum speed: 22 MPH Maximum weight capacity: 264 lbs Number of wheels: 2 Amazon ASIN: B0FPL3LSP7 Amazon Seller: VOLPAM Direct (Seller ID: A11YRD16TQ357K) Purchase price: $349.99 Purchased: October 21, 2025

I purchased a VOLPAM SP01 electric scooter (500W motor) in October 2025 for use as a personal commuting vehicle. Within months of normal adult use on paved roads, the motor developed a defect producing loud irregular noises during acceleration and braking and losing the ability to reach or maintain speed. The scooter lost propulsion suddenly while in use on a public road. I was fortunate that no vehicle was immediately behind me at the time, as an abrupt loss of speed on a road with active traffic could have resulted in a serious collision. I initiated a warranty claim with the seller (VOLPAM Direct, an Amazon third-party seller). After months of back-and-forth, the seller issued a prepaid return label and I shipped the scooter back in June 2026 in its original packaging for repair. The seller held the scooter for approximately two months with no clear repair timeline. Upon my request for a refund, the scooter was shipped back in August 2026. When it arrived, the scooter was improperly packaged and sustained shipping damage. More critically, an internal wire was found severed creating a serious electrical hazard on a 500W lithium battery-powered vehicle. When I reported this to the seller, they offered to ship replacement wires and $10 in compensation, expecting me to perform electrical repairs on a high-voltage scooter myself. No physical injuries occurred, however the combination of sudden propulsion loss in traffic and a severed internal wire on a high-wattage electric scooter poses a significant risk of electric shock, fire, battery failure, or traffic collision to any consumer who uses or attempts to repair this product.

  4. No one hurt

Made Dec 27, 2025, sent to the company Dec 31, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 15, 2026

The product, in the report: Volpam Electric Scooter, Model SPT7, black/gray color. Adult electric scooter with a foldable handlebar stem and integrated deck battery. The scooter is powered by a 350W electric motor with a 36V 10.5Ah lithium-ion battery. It is marketed for adult riders with a stated maximum load of 120 kg (264 lbs).

I am submitting this report to document a serious safety hazard involving a Volpam electric scooter purchased through Amazon.

While using the scooter under normal riding conditions, I discovered structural instability in the frame and handlebar assembly. The scooter began to feel unstable, and the frame appeared to be separating. This created an immediate risk of collapse while riding.

In addition to the structural defect, the scooter experienced multiple critical component failures, including: Brake assembly failure: brake components loosened and fell apart while I was riding, requiring immediate repair to avoid an accident Brake light failure within the first week of ownership Throttle failure, requiring replacement Battery inefficiency, requiring daily charging despite normal usage

Because of these failures, the scooter is unsafe to operate. I weigh approximately 180 pounds, which is well within the advertised weight limits for this product.

After experiencing these issues, I reviewed product feedback and found multiple verified customer reviews reporting the same defect, including scooters snapping in half or breaking apart during use, resulting in falls, injuries, and hospital visits. This suggests a systemic manufacturing or design defect, not an isolated incident.

I contacted both Amazon and the manufacturer. Amazon declined assistance due to the return window expiring. The manufacturer refused a refund or brand-new replacement and offered only repair or a used replacement unit (90% new), which does not adequately address a safety-related structural defect.

Due to the risk of serious injury, I have stopped using the scooter entirely.

I am submitting this report to alert the Consumer Product Safety Commission of a potentially dangerous product currently being sold to consumers.

  5. First aid

Made Jul 24, 2024, sent to the company Jul 26, 2024, published by CPSC Aug 9, 2024

The product, in the report: Electric Scooter, 8.5’’/10’’ Tires, Max 21-27 Miles Range, 350-500W Motor, Max 19/21 MPH Speed, Dual Braking, Folding Commuting Electric Scooter

On the evening of Sunday, July 21, around 5:15 PM, I was riding the scooter I purchased from Amazon a few months ago. My destination was the parking lot where my car was parked in [REDACTED]. While riding, the safety locker on the scooter unexpectedly opened, causing me to fall onto the street and sustain injuries to my hands, elbow, arm, and right leg. The wounds were significant, and I was both panicked and bewildered by how it happened. Considering the speed I was traveling at, which was approximately 15 mph, the consequences could have been much worse, so I am thankful for that. Despite the pain and bleeding, I had to drive for four and a half hours following the incident.

It is worth noting that the locker had opened on previous occasions, but I attributed it to my potential failure in properly securing it. However, on this particular instance, I made sure to lock it correctly, and it appeared to be in place. To my surprise, after the incident, I locked it again and gave the scooter a shake, only to find that it opened on its own once more. This poses a significant safety concern, and I strongly believe that a recall is necessary. I contacted the vendor, but their only resolution was to offer a replacement scooter. After reading reviews, I discovered that other people have also experienced similar issues. I kindly request that you thoroughly investigate this matter. The potential consequences were severe, and I do not wish for anyone else to endure a similar situation. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
