Hurt, no treatment Made Sep 23, 2026, sent to the company Sep 28, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 13, 2026
The product, in the report: Segway Ninebot KickScooter Max G30P electric kick scooter. Dark gray and black, folding stem, 10-inch pneumatic tires, 350 W hub motor, 551 Wh battery, approx. 42 lbs, 19.1 kg, max speed 18.6 mph. The stem folds using a quick-release folding lever at the base of the stem. That lever fractured at its pivot and the pivot pin sheared, which let the stem collapse while riding.
I was riding my Segway Ninebot KickScooter Max G30P electric scooter (serial N4GSD1941K0373) when the quick-release folding lever that locks the stem upright fractured at its pivot, and the pivot pin sheared and fell out. The stem collapsed forward without warning while the scooter was moving, and I was thrown from the scooter. I landed on my hands and suffered abrasions to both palms and a neck injury. I was the only rider and was using the scooter normally for transportation on a city street.
This model is covered by CPSC Recall 25-193 (folding mechanism failure, fall hazard). I requested Segway’s recall self-maintenance kit on March 20, 2025 (Segway case [REDACTED]) and completed the adjustment following Segway’s written and video instructions shortly after the kit arrived. The failure happened after the recall remedy had been applied. The remedy only tightens the folding mechanism’s adjustment bolt, and it did not prevent the lever itself from fracturing and the stem from collapsing.

Emergency room Made Jul 28, 2026, sent to the company Jul 31, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 14, 2026
The product, in the report: Electric Scooter
I’m concerned there is an imminent safety threat to riders of the Segway model GT2 scooter. This is Segway’s premium superscooter that is capable of going over 40 mph and rated for 330lb riders. Unfortunately there are multiple design flaws in the front suspension that make this model (and GT1) susceptible to a catastrophic failure event. I’m now seeing other GT2 owners have experienced the same catastrophic failure. I’m worried I am one of the earlier failures because I purchased the GT2 not long after launch (Aug 2023), used as a daily commuter (2.5 yrs, ~6000 mi total) and am heavier (240lb).
On my commute home I hit a bump, one I’ve overcome hundreds of times before, two blocks from my home, and my steerer tube ruptured sending me to the ground hard at 20 mph. The handlebars and front forks essentially fell out of the frame, leaving me helpless.
I sustained multiple injuries including: -Four broken bones in my left hand (requiring two surgeries and screw in my scaphoid) -Chipped tooth -Face lacerations (requiring stitches and resulting in noticeable permanent scaring) -Broken right wrist
I’ve looked closely at the failure to understand better understand what happened. I’m a Washington State board certified Professional Mechanical Engineer (Machine Design and Materials), so material failures interest me. In summary, this catastrophic failure was 100% preventable. The design errors/negligence lead to the steerer tube being susceptible to fatigue (crack propagation) and will inevitably result in more failures. Additionally, the rupture occurs in a location that is not inspectable, so there is no way to assess a scooters current condition by inspecting for cracks. All GT1 and GT2 models should be recalled.

First aid Made Jul 27, 2026, sent to the company Jul 31, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 14, 2026
The product, in the report: Segway Ninebot ES series electric kick scooter (dark gray, foldable two-wheel electric scooter).
While I was riding my Segway Ninebot ES series scooter normally, the frame completely snapped in half out of nowhere. I fell off and injured my leg, which left me with bad scrapes, bruising, and permanent scarring on my knee.
I bought the scooter brand new on March 16, 2023, and it only had around 550 miles on it over 3 years of light use. When I reached out to Segway Support about this major safety failure, they refused to offer a proper replacement or solution. I asked them to send my physical scooter back so I could document the damage, but they have stopped responding to my emails. I am reporting this because a scooter frame snapping in half during normal use is a dangerous safety hazard.

First aid Made Jan 2, 2026, sent to the company Jan 7, 2026, published by CPSC Jan 22, 2026
The product, in the report: Segway e2 pro kick electric scooter
I am reporting a catastrophic mechanical failure of the steering stem/folding mechanism on my Segway E2 Pro. Two weeks prior to the crash, I formally notified Segway support of a developing issue with the stem. Segway did not provide a timely resolution or safety warning. On [Date of Crash], the defect caused the stem to fail mid-ride, resulting in a sudden crash. The crash resulted in a forceful impact to my head and back. I suffered a loss of consciousness (blackout), followed by temporary vision impairment and significant motor coordination issues (“spaghetti legs”)
Despite my prior warning 14 days before the crash, Segway failed to mitigate the risk. They are currently insisting on proof of purchase for a warranty repair rather than addressing the liability for a product that they were warned was unsafe.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Nov 5, 2025, sent to the company Nov 12, 2025, published by CPSC Nov 26, 2025
The product, in the report: The product is a Segway Ninebot E22 electric scooter. It is a lightweight, foldable e-scooter with a dark gray frame and red brake cables. It has a front electronic brake and a rear manual foot brake. The wheels are solid, non-pneumatic tires about 9 inches in diameter. The scooter is marketed as safe for urban commuting and includes a built-in front light. I purchased it brand new from Amazon. At the time of the incident, the scooter had been used for only a few months and was in good condition with no visible damage.
While riding my Segway Ninebot E22 electric scooter on a public road in Seattle, the brakes suddenly stopped functioning while I was going downhill. I pressed the brake lever repeatedly, but the scooter failed to slow down or stop. As a result, I lost control and was thrown forward onto the pavement.
I suffered bleeding from both knees and hands, along with significant bruising and emotional distress. I had to visit urgent care for treatment, and several personal items were damaged during the fall, including my [REDACTED] Watch, helmet, and clothing. The incident happened without any warning, and it could have resulted in more severe injuries. I believe this is a serious product safety concern.
I contacted Segway regarding this incident but have not received any response. I have also found similar brake failure reports associated with other Segway scooter models on public consumer forums.

Hurt, no treatment Made Aug 11, 2025, sent to the company Aug 13, 2025, published by CPSC Aug 27, 2025
The product, in the report: Segway Ninebot F3 eKickScooter, adult electric scooter, black with gray trim, folding handlebar design. Features a thumb-operated accelerator on the right handlebar, front and rear braking systems, and a digital dashboard display. Purchased new and activated on May 15, 2025. Scooter serial number is: 1EFBE2503C1089. Accelerator has a specific serial number imprinted: JNM25010534
On August 1, 2025, at approximately 6:20 PM ET, while operating a Segway eKickScooter Ninebot F3 (serial number 1EFBE2503C1089) activated in May 2025, the accelerator became stuck in the fully engaged position shortly after rainfall had stopped. The handlebar was slightly damp, but the scooter was not being ridden in the rain at the time.
The throttle lock caused sudden, uncontrolled acceleration. I was riding on a flat paved surface at moderate speed and had to bail off to avoid colliding with obstacles. This resulted in bruising and soreness to my right arm and hand from bracing my fall, as well as swelling in my left knee from my left leg absorbing the force of contacting the ground upon landing. Symptoms of these injuries persisted for over a week after the incident. The scooter itself sustained visible cosmetic damage to the handlebar, deck, and frame.
This malfunction is consistent with numerous publicly reported throttle-sticking incidents on Segway F- and G-series scooters, often associated with moisture or throttle assembly misalignment. In some cases, Segway has acknowledged the defect and replaced the throttle module. This defect poses an ongoing safety hazard to other consumers, as the failure mode could occur without warning during normal operation. Due to the serious risk posed, I have asked Segway to replace the scooter due to the faulty accelerator and cosmetic damage sustained during the incident, but they have failed to follow up with me in a timely manner.
Additional property damage occurred during the incident, totaling approximately $275, including torn or damaged clothing and accessories. Witnesses were present and can corroborate the events leading to and during the accident.

First aid Made Jul 29, 2025, sent to the company Aug 1, 2025, published by CPSC Aug 15, 2025
The product, in the report: Segway GT3 SuperScooter (Electric Scooter)
In July 2025, I experienced a power button failure on my Segway GT3 scooter. The unit began powering on unexpectedly during troubleshooting, even when not manually activated. During one of these episodes, the scooter jolted forward while I was straddling it, causing me to fall and sustain a facial injury. I was traveling at low speed on a pedestrian bridge at the time. My face and eye were injured, and I have photographic documentation of the incident.
Update 8/1/2025: I wanted to add additional information -
What safety problem do you believe this presents? The scooter is susceptible to uncommanded power-on events due to a defective power button or communication system. This presents a serious safety hazard, especially since Segway instructs customers to perform diagnostic disassembly themselves, even on high-powered units capable of sudden movement. The unit is not safe to troubleshoot in this condition, and I believe the defect poses a danger to other riders.
Has the manufacturer been contacted? Yes.
What did the manufacturer say or do? Despite multiple messages, Segway has failed to:
• Provide a timely resolution, • Offer a verified replacement, • Or acknowledge the severity of the incident and resulting injury.
They sent a shipping label and asked me to box and transport a 100+ lb unit myself, despite my injury. I informed them that I would only release the damaged unit once a replacement is received, and that Segway must arrange pickup. As of July 28, 2025, I have received no response or resolution.
Injury details: Facial injury including impact near the eye (photo evidence available). Injury was directly caused by the scooter powering on during diagnostic app use.
Do you have documentation? Yes – photos of the injury, emails, chat transcripts, and technical instructions.

Product Name: Segway Ninebot Max G30P Electric Kick Scooter Model Number: G30P Brand Name: Segway Date Purchased: April 27, 2023 Purchased From: Amazon.com
While replacing the rear tire on my Segway Ninebot Max G30P, I opened the deck panel and discovered multiple wiresspecifically the yellow, blue, red, and black wireswere visibly burned or partially melted. The wire caps connecting them were heat-damaged, and there was a strong odor of burning plastic.
These wires are located near the battery and motor controller connection, which suggests a significant electrical overheating event or short circuit occurred internally without my knowledge. I immediately disconnected and removed the battery and am now storing it outdoors in a fire-resistant container, away from my home, due to concern over thermal runaway or fire risk.
I have contacted Segway support, and Amazon has initiated a refund due to the safety hazard. However, Im filing this report because I believe this product may present a fire or shock hazard to others and should be investigated for broader safety issues or potential recalls.

The product, in the report: Segway Ninebot Max G30LP
While riding my Segway Ninebot Max G30LP scooter in a designated bike lane under normal conditions, the folding mechanism suddenly collapsed, causing me to fall off the scooter. I sustained bruises and scrapes as a result of the fall. I weigh 165 lbs and was using the product within recommended limits. I reported the issue to Segway support, who sent a repair/adjustment kit. After applying it exactly as instructed, the folding mechanism became completely inoperable the scooter now cannot fold or be safely used or stored. This is a serious safety defect, not a maintenance issue. I purchased the scooter directly from Segway and was never notified of any recall related to this issue. The scooter has not functioned since the failure. Segway support has refused to offer a replacement unless I ship the unit back for inspection, despite it being immobile and extremely difficult to package or transport.

The product, in the report: Segway Ninebot p100s electric kick scooter. Black and gray with red accents. 70lbs
In 2022 i purchased a Segway Ninebot p100s electric kick scooter. On march 23 2025 i was riding to work down the street going approximately 15-20mph when the front fork broke away from the front wheel during normal operation. The front fork is the steering column which attaches to the front wheel. The scooter fell apart into 3 pieces, the front fork, front wheel and board. This caused complete loss of steering and a serious crash leaving severe road rash and a fractured tooth.

The product, in the report: Segway GT2,
Full story: [REDACTED]
My story and general info:
I’m an experienced rider.
Over 15,000 km on [REDACTED]
Over 10,000 km on Segways: G30 (owned 2 of them), G2 (4,000 km), and GT2.
Ive never crashed any of them, maybe because I have 20 years and around 300k km of driving cars, without any accidents so far.
For context, I weigh 85 kg, so this isnt due to weight.
I never crashed this GT2, not even a simple bump or so just normal riding all the time.
Riding this Segway GT2, I’d say it was 70% city/asphalt roads and 30% dirt roads.
But heres the catch: the city is Lviv, where a lot of roads are made from cobblestone, and the GT2 felt really bad on them. Anyway, after 10k km riding Dualtron scooters on the same roads, there was never any serious damage like what I experienced with the GT2.
Basically, what I want to add here is that the roads were not always perfect, but more like average.
I see this as an engineering failure, since it broke at the specific spot where the bolt and hole are. This design flaw is quite frustrating. Segway shouldve done something like Inmotion did with their RS model, adds internal reinforcement inside the steering tube, cross-shaped.
I was lucky that my speed was only 30 km/h when it happened, so I just experienced almost fully blocked steering and nearly fell off the scooter. Fortunately, I managed to stop in time.

First aid Made Jun 11, 2024, sent to the company Jun 14, 2024, published by CPSC Jul 1, 2024
The product, in the report: Segway P100S electric scooter
Segway P100S scooter’s front fork broke (sheared) while a 130 pound 15 year old was riding it on smooth pavement at 30 mph. As a result of the front fork breaking, the front tire came off and the rider was thrown from the scooter and hit the pavement. This resulted various cuts and bruises. The scooter was about 6 months old and had 800 miles on it. The scooter was not abused. The scooter’s front fork does not appear to be designed to be able to take the forces associated with normal riding. There are various other reports on [REDACTED] of individuals having the same exact failure (here: [REDACTED]) The CPSC should investigate these incidents further and force a recall.

The product, in the report: Segway Max G2
The brand new scooter I purchased had weak brakes, inconsistent regenerative braking, and a tendency to wobble. I can move the scooter with just one foot with the brakes fully pressed down. The regenerative braking is extremely inconsistent- with it sometimes kicking in when I let go of the throttle, other times not at all, and other times, it remembers to kick in when I hit the brakes. I don’t know how much my scooter is going to brake- which is extremely dangerous when there are other people behind me. I’ve tried all the regen levels- strong, medium, weak, but the issue persists. Given these happened out of the box- I doubt segway is testing their scooters before shipping them out to customers.

The product, in the report: Segway Ninebot ES4 Electric Kick Scooter with External Battery, Lightweight and Foldable, Upgraded Motor Power, Dark Grey
My brother was riding a Ninebot ES4 scooter on 8/29 when the battery exploded and launched him off, causing him to hit his head. He was commuting down a neighborhood side street in Brooklyn. He sustained a TBI and had a massive epidural hematoma. He had to go into emergent surgery and was put on a ventilator and in a medically induced coma for two weeks. Now, three weeks since the accident, we are unsure what his recovery will look like.

No one hurt Made Oct 2, 2021, sent to the company Oct 20, 2021, published by CPSC Nov 3, 2021
The product, in the report: I believe it is the Segway/Ninebot Shared Scooter MAX model of electric scooter. Model Shared Scooter MAX
I have made repeated complaints to the micromobility operator, as well as the appropriate agency at the City of Denver’s gov site, but no response/action. The product is the shared Lyft electric scooters in the City of Denver, Colorado. I was using the product. I was using the product to travel, in a legal and appropriate manner, in accordance with local regulations. No injuries occurred, but there seems to me a high probability of one occuring.
In Denver, we have a pedestrian/shuttle mall, which is a restricted zone for electric scooters. My understanding is that the geofence is supposed to prevent shared scooters from riding DOWN (along) the mall, which runs NW/SE. However, every block there are roadways that cross the mall, including several roads with bike lanes (in Denver, scooters are supposed to use the bike lane if available, otherwise they are legal in the general lane—they are not permitted on the sidewalk).
On multiple instances, I have had the geofence restriction kick in while CROSSING the 16th St pedestrian/shuttle mall. The most likely scenario is if I’m riding a scooter and am stopped at a red light before crossing the mall—once I have a green light, the scooter will most likely not operate. Additionally, the wheels will lock, making it difficult to PUSH the scooter out of the geofenced area. This is not the most dangerous scenario, since being stopped at the light, it’s easy enough to push the scooter (against the locked wheels) onto the sidewalk. However…
…if I have a green light, the geofence restrictions can kick in…at any point along the block after having crossed the mall. The most dangerous scenario that I have experienced (repeatedly) is on Stout St between 16th & 17th, which does not have a bike lane (I take this road because a) [REDACTED], and b) there’s a protected bike lane that starts on 18th & Stout). Because Stout St between 16th & 17th has multiple lanes (and a light rail track), and has parking on the right-hand side, if/when the scooter cuts power and LOCK THE WHEELS while I’m riding down a general traffic lane, there’s is literally nowhere to go except to dismount and slowly PUSH the scooter (against the locked wheels) down a half-block in the middle of a general traffic lane (frequently in heavy traffic) until I reach the end of the block and can either get to the sidewalk, or the scooter finally unlocks again.
While I understand the need to have areas where shared scooters are restricted from use, the implementation of the geofencing on the 16th St Mall by Lyft in Denver Colorado represents an extreme safety hazard, particularly for those who are unfamiliar with the misguided implementation of this restriction and are unprepared for their scooters to suddenly cut power and LOCK (resulting in a much faster than expected deceleration) while in traffic.

The product, in the report: Segway Ninebot ES4 Scooter. About 36 inches tall non folding scooter. Model SN1.0BLK
While on my ride home from South Philadelphia, from my job. I was riding along the newly installed bike path at about 17mph. I hit a small bump along the path and the scooter started being a little odd to ride. About 500 ft later the handle part of the post just sheared off causing me to fall into active traffic. I quickly recovered and moved from the road. Where I called my significant other. Who took me to our office, nursed my wounds and that is when I contacted Segway about the faulty possibly deadly product.
