No one hurt Made Sep 28, 2026, sent to the company Oct 5, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 20, 2026
The product, in the report: Foldable adult electric scooter with a saddle/seat. Black aluminum frame, 10 inch pneumatic tires, front and rear suspension, 500W motor, 48V battery, top speed 20 mph. Thumb throttle on the right handlebar, disc brakes front and rear, LCD display console mounted on the handlebar. Used as a commuter scooter on pavement. This particular unit was a refurbished scooter sent to me by the manufacturer as a warranty replacement rather than a new retail purchase.
The throttle on this electric scooter sticks in the engaged position. When I press the throttle and then release it, the scooter keeps applying power instead of slowing down. This has happened repeatedly, not just once.
I am an adult and I was the only person using the scooter. I was riding it normally on pavement, as a commuter scooter. It is rated for 20 mph. A throttle that does not release when the rider lets go creates a serious crash risk, especially approaching a stop or in traffic. No injury occurred. I stopped riding it as soon as I found the fault and have not used it since.
The scooter also has weak acceleration on inclines and a grinding noise from the brakes consistent with debris or misalignment in the brake pads. My main concern is that both of the systems that slow the scooter down are affected at the same time.
This unit was sent to me by the manufacturer on 9/21/2026 as a warranty replacement for an earlier scooter of theirs that had developed a hard jerking motion under throttle and braking along with a recurring E9 motor error code. The manufacturer later confirmed in writing that the replacement they sent was a refurbished unit. I was not told before it shipped that I would be receiving a refurbished scooter.
I reported the sticking throttle to the manufacturer by email on 9/23/2026. They suggested the handlebar grip might be pressing on the throttle. I adjusted the grip and it still sticks. They then directed me to purchase a replacement console myself rather than repairing or replacing the unit.
I have photographs and video of the fault and the condition of the scooter as received.

The product, in the report: The product is a Gotrax GX2 that is grey in color, and is a dual motor electric scooter. manufacture date 7/08/2024. manufacturer on serial label says ZHEJIANG TAOTAO VEHICLES CO LTD.
We purchased two Gotrax GX2 electric scooters. One of them we found has an assembly or design flaw that allows the bars to turn 360 degrees making it unsafe. The other has a safety stop on the tiller of the scooter that does not allow the wheel to turn past an unsafe point during operation. Becuase of this my sun crashed and received numerous injurues.

First aid Made Aug 3, 2026, sent to the company Aug 6, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 20, 2026
The product, in the report: XR ADVANCE E-SCOOTER-BLACK: The GoTrax XR Advance Electric Scooter in black is an entry-level commuting e-scooter featuring a 15.5 mph top speed, a 12 to 14-mile max operating range, and a lightweight folding frame
The electric scooter suffered a catastrophic mechanical and software failure involving the braking system. The scooter began occasionally applying the brakes (locking) automatically without any driver input or physical pressure on the brake lever. While minor braking glitches occurred early on, a severe malfunction happened on June 28, 2026. While my son was riding the scooter, the brakes spontaneously and violently engaged on their own. This sudden unexpected deceleration caused a serious crash, throwing my son from the scooter and resulting in physical injuries. The vehicle now has visible physical damage from the crash, and the spontaneous brake engagement poses an immediate, severe safety hazard to riders

Hurt, no treatment Made Jun 24, 2026, sent to the company Jun 29, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 14, 2026
The product, in the report: Electric scooter
My daughter was riding the scooter, relatively low speed. She tried to stop and instinctively brought her left leg towards the rear fender. She got a deep laceration with lots of bleeding. My other kids got smaller injuries previously as well. This scooter has exposed sharp parts, the break, the edge of the fender. It is a major hazard. I am a physician, unfortunately I did not take a picture before applying glue and steri strips to the wound but it is a deep laceration, 3 cm by 0.5 cm, about 3 mm deep, heavy bleeding.
(06/29/2026) Product, GoTrax XR Advance Lightweight Electric Scooter, model GT-XRADVANCE-GRAY, serial GTSH8532503GRY03266, manufactured March 8 2025, purchased from BestBuy.com on August 3 2025 and delivered August 5 2025, Best Buy SKU 6574976. I am supplementing to describe the hazard more completely than my first report and to refine the injury detail. The core hazard is a cluster of exposed, unguarded sharp parts concentrated on the foot side of the deck. On inspection, the kickstand has several sharp edges, the rear fender edge is sharp, and the brake rotor has knife-like edges, all in locations a foot can reach if it leaves the deck. A rider does not contact a single isolated sharp point. There are multiple ways to be cut on this side of the scooter. This is compounded by a braking defect. When the hand brake is applied, the scooter pitches sharply forward toward tipping over the front wheel, which makes the intended brake unsafe to use. My daughter, riding at relatively low speed, tried to stop and instinctively brought her foot down toward the deck, as one would to slow a non-powered scooter. Her ankle was deeply lacerated by one of the exposed sharp parts. The injury was severe enough that she cannot identify which specific component cut her, which is itself the concern. A foot leaving the deck on this scooter encounters several unguarded sharp edges rather than none. Refined injury detail. The laceration is on the posteromedial aspect of the left ankle, just anterior to the Achilles tendon and approximately 1 cm below the medial malleolus, approximately 4 cm long and 5 mm deep, with heavy bleeding. This refines the initial estimate in my first report. As a physician, I closed it with tissue adhesive and Steri-Strips. The wound was of a severity that ordinarily warrants medical closure. She is currently unable to participate in gymnastics. Two other children sustained minor cuts on the same scooter on prior occasions. A scooter marketed for this use should have no sharp, unguarded parts in locations a foot can reach, not several. Combined with a brake that deters safe braking, this is a design defect, not ordinary wear. I still have the product in my possession. Attachments to this report include photographs of the exposed sharp parts, the kickstand, the rear fender edge, and the brake rotor, and a photograph of the injury. I request that this hazard be recorded and evaluated for recall.

The product, in the report: Red GXL V2 Lightweight Scooter 27 lbs 8.5 tires Payload 220lbs
The GoTrax GXL V2 electric scooter suffered a complete front fork failure after only two and a half months of use. The metal fork at the front wheel attachment point ripped while in use, causing the entire front wheel assembly to detach and the rider to fall off. The scooter collapsed forward as a result. Fortunately, injuries were minor and rider was wearing a helmet. The manufacturer offered a replacement but refused a refund, leaving a serious safety defect unaddressed.

We got the gotrax electric scooter for our 6 year old son this past Christmas and it caught our garage on fire and we almost lost our home. It was plugged in charging over night. This afternoon it spontaneously combusted and our garage was set on fire. My husband smelt an electrical fire and heard our neighbor across the street screaming that our garage was on fire.

The product, in the report: Electric Kids Scooter
I am writing to report a serious safety incident involving one of the three Gotrax GKS Mini Electric Scooter for Kids (ages 612)that I purchased November 29, 2025 and was opened Christmas morning December 25, 2025.
While the scooter was plugged in and charging with the original Gotrax charger, the battery caught fire on January 10, 2026 around 10pm ESTin my garage, producing heavy smoke and multiple popping/explosive sounds. The scooter had been charging for about four hoursat the time of the incident. For safety reasons, I had to move it outside immediately to prevent further damage to my home.
Thankfully, no one was injured, but this was avery alarming and dangerous event, especially considering this is a childrens product that is nearly brand new and was used exactly as instructed.
Important details:
- Model: Gotrax GKS Mini Electric Scooter for Kids - Age of product: Opened about two weeks ago. - Charger used: Original manufacturer charger - Charging location: Garage - Incident: Battery fire with smoke and popping/explosions during charging
The scooter is currentlyoutside and no longer in usedue to the risk of re-ignition.

The product, in the report: GO-TRAX E-Scooter black color big scooter
I am going to college in the afternoon on the road on my e scooter, i entered the college premises just like everyday and after some time I felt the bike stopping itself and I fell over the bike and on the road. I felt like the bike itself applied a brake in that speed. After falling in the road, I was bleeding and still the bike didnt stop revolving its wheel usually it should only start when and after so much time when i tried to lift it, it kept acting weird without stopping. So, i left it on the ground and started picking my broken glasses, and tried to click the power button but it didnt stop after multiple attempts, i then clicked on reduce speed button multiple times and then it worked, and I clocked on power button then it stopped. As a result, a little finger got broken with a fracture on the proximal phalange (it broke and got displaced) It is a GOTRAX e scooter

The product, in the report: G4 Electric Scooter for Adults. Serial No. G 29896618. This is a personal electric scooter used by a single person. Top speed of 20 MPH.
Welds broke on my son’s G4 Gotrax Scooter less than a year’s worth of use. Really just at 1 year purchase time. Scooter had only been used full time for 7 months due to the weather in KS. Gotrax company would not stand behind their product. My son was traveling at the top speed of 20 MPH when the steering handles gave way. He luckily felt it give way in time to not crash on the pavement and be injured.

The product, in the report: GOTRAX GMAX Electric Scooter
GOTRAX GMAX Electric Scooter My child’s excitement was palpable as he hopped on his GMAX Electric Scooter, eager to take it for a spin. But in an instant, his joy turned to terror. Without warning, the scooter suddenly folded in half, sending my child tumbling to the ground.
I watched in horror as my child struggled to get up, clutching his injured arm and leg. The scooter, which was supposed to be a fun and safe way for him to get around, had failed us miserably.
We rushed my child to the hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries. The incident left us both shaken and wondering how this could have happened. Was it a manufacturing defect? A design flaw? Or simply a case of poor quality control?
As we navigated the aftermath of the accident, I couldn’t help but think about the trust we had placed in the scooter’s manufacturer. We had assumed that the product was safe and reliable, but now we were faced with the harsh reality of a faulty product that had put my child’s well-being at risk.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jan 3, 2022, sent to the company Jan 5, 2022, published by CPSC Jan 20, 2022
The product, in the report: GoTrax GKS Luminos eScooter for kids (blue) ordered via Amazon and delivered 12/23/21. Assembled, charged and operated exactly as described in the manual. This is horrifying that my son thinks his gift from Santa was “like a bomb” and he had just gotten off the scooter. We were about to leave the house when the smoke caught my attention and then the alarm went off. I purchased via Amazon and the Brand name is GoTrax but I think this might be a shell company for Tao Motors based in YongKang, Zhejiang, China. I call and email them however it just keeps telling me that due to covid they are “busy” and will contact me in 1-3 days which is what everyone else seems to say on the BBB search I did. Parents NEED to know the danger these pose to their family’s safety and property. *Amazon* link used to purchase: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08NPCLJS5?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details *Go Trax* company website (Carrolton, TX USA): https://gotrax.com/products/gks-lumios-electric-scooter-for-kids?variant=32115945701491 Company President: [REDACTED], President Possible phone numbers might also include: (844) 446-8729, 1 (888) 908-3816, 1-844-4GO-TRAX *Tao Motors* (located in YongKang, Zhejiang, China) I think may own the whole company. Here is the contact page of their website: https://taomotor.com/support/contact/ Says Corp headquarters (also listed as Carrolton, TX USA) and I see they do some assembling in Canada. *BBB Profile* (Rating F): https://www.bbb.org/us/tx/carrollton/profile/electric-scooter/gotrax-0875-91014657 Summary of BBB Report states: “CURRENT ALERTS FOR THIS BUSINESS Pattern of Complaints: On May 24, 2021, BBB became aware of a pattern in consumer complaints regarding the marketplace behavior of this company, Go Trax. Specifically, BBB has received complaints alleging that Go Trax products were purchased from Go Trax and other retailers and received defective “new” products, that when attempting to contact Go Trax customer service for refunds or replacement were often ignored, or when able to achieve a response from Go Trax customer service, consumers received defective or broken replacement products, and that orders of multiple items were only partially fulfilled while taking full payment. On May 25, 2021, BBB attempted to contact Go Trax regarding these consumer complaints. As of June 15, 2021, GoTrax has not responded to BBB communications addressing this pattern of complaints. BBB advises caution to consumers prior to purchasing any products or services from this business at the current time.”
**PRODUCT & WHAT HAPPENED**: On December 30th at 2:30pm, my 6 year old son came inside recharge his main gift from Santa this year which was a “GoTrax GKS Kids Luminos eScooter” purchased via Amazon for $200. Upon opening the package we followed the directions exactly and operated it as described in the owners manual. That day, [REDACTED] had used his eScooter on and off for the couple hours prior to the incident and it was in need of charge. This worked because we were just about to pack up and leave the house. Since the chord was really short so the easiest place to charge it was the outlet in the foyer of our house. A few minutes later, sitting inside our house, the scooter EXPLODED several times. Not just little pops; the blasts could be heard several houses away and caused all of our neighbors to come outside to see what was happening. As I ran towards the smoke, I saw flames a couple feet high and tons of dark, thick smoke that smelled toxic. There were 5-6 explosions that shot flaming pieces of plastic in all directions. In between explosions I kicked the scooter outside where it exploded once more. I grabbed my phone to record the aftermath which I can send if needed. The firefighters arrived and informed me that in our town alone, they had 4 other recent calls related to exploding eScooters and hoverboards. I researched the scooter prior to purchase but none of this information was obvious as I wouldn’t have thought to include the words “explosions” or “fire.” This eScooter company is possibly the highest rated on Amazon.
**DAMAGE & INJURIES & DAMAGE**: The explosions and flames caused interior/ exterior property damage, my house filled with smoke and I can feel the aftermath when I inhale. My lungs and throat are sore and every surface of the house is covered in a layer of toxic soot. We have a rare and fatal lung disease that runs in our family so I’m especially nervous. I need to have [REDACTED] come to clean the soot.
After some research I found that The company GoTrax is a shell for a Chinese company (Tao Motors) and doesn’t answer calls, return messages, or interact with customers at all from what I have read on the hundreds of BBB complaints. PLEASE let others know of this danger. When you [REDACTED] “e-scooter explosion” or similar, there are over 100k reports of injuries and the number of deaths (especially of kids) are climbing at an alarming rate.
In my report I mentioned the following names associated with this horrible company: GoTrax Go Trax, Tao Motors TaoTao (not positive that I mentioned this version)
I now want to add the following AKA titles for GoTrax/Tao Motors: “Parts Kit” (see their website here is at the exact address for GoTrax headquarters) “Killer Motor Sports” (behind a single garage door next door to GoTrax/ Parts Kit.com) “Motor Depot Inc” Also associated seem to be “beast parts” (in LA, from what I can tell it seems that this is where merch is received and then distributed across the country)

The product, in the report: Gotrax GXL, manufacture date 10/5/2018, serial number: GTGX440PIN18090123, color: Pink Model GXL
I was using my Gotrax GXL Electric Scooter to commute from work to home. When I arrived to my apartment I started smelling smoke coming from the main shaft. I investigated the area further by removing the screws on the tube handle where I found evidence that the battery was melted from the connection port. This is clearly a safety concern as the item could have started a fire in my home, the plastic was still hot to the touch and I took pictures as evidence. I would like the company to issue me a defect free item as this item was rarely used in the past two years.
