The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Todco GR301-SS Stainless Steel Roasted Garlic Express This unit roasts garlic in just 27 minutes, and makes use of an automatic shut off feature to prevent burning. The roaster uses a terra cotta clay piece, to cover the heating element, that provides even heating without direct contact. Simply fill the nonstick roasting cup with the desired number of garlic bulbs, along with one tablespoon of oil per bulb. Place the bulbs cut-side down, close the lid and power the machine on. Press the start button and the roasting cycle begins, automatically bringing it to the right temperature and amount of time. Has non-stick interior, and the roasting handle is completely detachable. In addition, the cord stores underneath the unit

This is for: Todco GR301-SS Stainless Steel Roasted Garlic Express

When I used my Roasted Garlic Express model 301-SS for the first time it was a painful experience. Upon the completion of the cycle and a 2-3 minute wait I carefully opened the lid whereupon I received a burn from the trapped steam and oil vapor which escaped.

I consider myself to be a careful person and I did read the instructions. I sent the manufacturer an e-mail strongly suggesting they modify the instructions, namely the last sentence in Step 7 where it reads: “Let set 2-3 minutes for best results, then grasp the front handle and carefully lift the lid.” I would add: *with tongs or an oven mitt.* I have not yet received a response.

I also noticed some smoke coming out of the unit for the first few minutes which I kept a watch on since I did follow the BEFORE USING THE FIRST TIME cleaning instructions. Perhaps this should be mentioned in the instructions as well.
