The product, in the report: Shark Steam & Mop Model S8201
Hi, In February I purchased a Shark Steam & Scrub (Model S8201). After using it three times, when I went to use it for the fourth, the steam function wasn’t working. As my husband was troubleshooting the issue, my three year old daughter walked past the device and in that moment steam shot out of the back of the device (where steam is not supposed to expel). My daughter and husband screamed and she received a burn on her knee. I’m wildly disappointed that a device could misfunction so quickly after use, and concerned about the safety of others with this product on the market.

Translation: The mopping machine starts as soon as it is plugged. During mopping it also produces hot vapor, which makes the floor very slippery. I wanted to turn off the machine, but it didn’t stop because it doesn’t have an emergency shut off button or a button with letters that indicates how to turn on and off the machine, which made it difficult for me to turn off the machine quickly. The machine didn’t stop and pulled me, making me fall and break my left ankle.

The product, in the report: Shark Model S3051 Steam floor mop cleaner—for all floor types, and an attachment bracket to fit mop head into for steaming rugs.
Product is the Shark Steam Pocket Mop Model S3501 Went to use after appliance warmed up—pumped the handle for the steam, and the whole head literally blew off of the handle and flew across the room, the only thing that stopped its projection was the wall. As the manual recommends, I buy distilled water for use in the steamer. With no head on the handle, steam is produced just fine, when any of the mop heads are attached, and there are two, the steam does not penetrate the mop heads. There is no blockages in the mop heads. There was black soft rubbery residue after the mop head blew off. I think that there was some type of gasket or O-ring at the opening as where the steam is released and it deterioted. No notes in manual or replacement part. Called Shark Oct 18, 2014 they were apologetic and offered to send me a new head for $51.89 plus postage of 24.99. My sister-in-law pitched hers when this happened. Really $90.00 You can a whole new one for that price. That is irrelevant, my concern is this can be a dangerous situation. The head just missed the screen of the TV. It could have gone through my picture window, or injured a child or a pet? Shark needs to address this flaw.

The product, in the report: Shark Professional Steam Pocket Mop Model: S3601
We have been using our steam mop for about 2 years. Last night, while my husband was mopping the floor, the bottom of the mop shot out, along with a huge blast of steam. We weren’t hurt, but if my children were standing anywhere close to him -- as they do, since they like to help him mop -- they would have been hit with the steam or the bottom of the mop. What concerns us is that the bottom shot out as if it was under pressure. Also, a ton of water spilled out, in addition to the hot steam.
The bottom has never been detached from the unit before, and we have been using the mop regularly over the last two years. That part is detachable, but you have to press a button on the side of the machine with enough pressure to do it. We keep our cleaning supplies hidden well out of view of the children, and I know my husband and I have not ever needed to detach it before.

Hurt, care not known Made Nov 17, 2014, sent to the company Mar 11, 2015, published by CPSC Mar 25, 2015
The product, in the report: Shark Lift-Away Pro, Steam Pocket Mop
I purchased a Shark Lift-Away Pro, Steam Pocket Mop S3901D at Bed Bath and Beyond two years ago and have enjoyed cleaning my floors with this steamer. On October 24, 2014 the Shark Steamer exploded. Just before the machine exploded my employee said it had stopped making steam. We put more water in it and it seemed to make steam again. A few minutes later when I was in another room there was a loud, terrifying noise that sounded like an explosion. I was afraid to go into the room because I was not sure it was safe or what I would find. I wanted to check on my employee and found him visibly upset by the noise and the force of the explosion. His feet were scalded and the floor was damaged from the boiling water and steam. The Lift-Away water container of the Shark Steamer became unattached from the machine and shot a few feet Also the cap came off the water container. Boiling water and steam were spewed two to three feet from the machine. When I went online in Google, I was shocked that there were numerous complaints about Shark Steamers exploding. I have told the above story to some of my friends who have Shark Steamer and tried to warn them of this defective and dangerous equipment only to find that they also had Shark Steamers that stopped making steam and exploded. I am shocked that this and other Shark Steamers have not been recalled and taken off the market The explosion indicated a clear and present danger. How can you sell products that are defective and dangerous? I demand that your company pay all of the costs of damage to my property and employees injuries. I also demand that I am compensated for the cost of replacing this steamer with a machine that does not explode.

The product, in the report: Shark Steam Pocket Mop
I was using mop when it stopped steaming. Waiting for it to reheat to see if that would help and continued to pump handle to start steaming process. No steam released. The mop head shot off with great force 3 feet across the room and released steam and the heated water from tank everywhere. Luckily, my 6 month old baby and 4 year old were no where near and I was not injured. I use distilled water for the tank to prevent mineral build up and use a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water to prevent any possible build up. This could seriously injury a person by the steam released under great pressure, the scolding hot water from the tank, or the mop head shooting off.

The product, in the report: Shark Steam Pocket Mop-S3501
I plugged in my Shark Steam Mop and waited for it to steam which typically takes about 30 seconds. This time, it did not steam. I pumped the handle a couple of times to ensure that water was being pushed into the heating mechanism, and still no steam. I checked the water level and verified that there was an adequate amount of water. I wondered if the mop head had been put on backwards, so I unplugged the mop, and since the mop showed no signs of steaming, proceeded to remove the mop head. Once I did this, a huge amount of steam spewed out of the handle/steam device, nearly burning me! I’m really lucky that I wasn’t pointing it at my face! Since I could not diagnose a problem, and thought that maybe this was an isolated incident, I decided to try the mop again. I replaced the mop head, plugged it back in, and waited. Still no steam. This time, however, the water tank/heating mechanism became extremely hot to the touch and began to leak hot water! I immediately unplugged the mop and let it sit. I contacted EuroPro through the company’s website on approximately 06/23/14, and again on 06/26/14 (I have screen shots of this submission on my computer as proof) to attempt to resolve this issue. I never received a response! I also contacted the company via the “claims line” (left a message) at 866-694-6406 on 07/10/14 at 8:36am CST to allow them an opportunity to investigate and resolve this issue prior to me posting it on the CSPC website and never received a response from that either.

The product, in the report: Shark Pro Steam Pocket Mop Model S3601A
While using my steam mop a loud popping sound occurred and hot steam poured out at a rapid pace from the joint of the handle of the mop and the mop attachment. After this stopped and the mop would no longer steam or heat. This is the second mop I have owned and is only about 6 months old, but is only about its 3rd use. The 1st mop that I had, also a Shark, did the same thing after about 2 years of use.

The product, in the report: electric steam mop, water reservoir in body, pump handle and mop head which can be removed to switch between different sized heads
Had been using Shark Steam Mop for about 10-15 min, as manufacturing recommends, using a pushing/pulling motion which “pumps” the handle to generate steam. Suddenly the mop head blew off, and scalding hot steam and water shot out in about a 2 ft radius for several seconds until pressure wss released.

The product, in the report: Shark Steam Mop
I own a Shark S3501FS Steam Mop. I have owned the product for about a year and have used it less than 20 times. When using the mop I noticed the steam did not seam to be working as well as previous times I used the mop. The steam builds up pressure and then the head blows off and all the steam rapidly escapes. I tried cleaning the head area. I did not see any obstructions so I tried the mop again and the head blew off a second time. I view this as a dangerous situation that could cause serious injury or burns from the steam.
Sincerely, [REDACTED]

I put water in my steam mop and plugged it in. Usually it starts steaming within a minute or two. It didn’t this time. I got closer to see if I could hear it. Then all of a sudden the mop head blew off across the floor and then the steam came out. I was not hurt but felt that the product was unsafe to use.

We have a Shark brand steam mop (“Professional” model) purchased at Costco in Santee, CA. After just 3-5 minutes of normal use (cleaning small kitchen floor), the plug on the mop is extremely hot to the touch. Tonight (5.13.13) it burned the finger of my 9-year-old son when he was unplugging the mop from the wall outlet.

The product, in the report: Electric floor steamer
I have two Shark Euro-Pro floor steamers and they both have the exact same issue. Once they are turned on and warmed up you push up and down in order to force steam out of the end onto the floor. What frequently hapens is the unit become clogged and the steam continues to build as there is no exit for the pressure. I have tried on multiple occasions to remove the head and if yoiu have not allowed at least 20 minutes for the unit to cool down it will literally explode with great force. This was the worst ever and it sprayed my foot, through my socks and slipper causing a burn. The fact that there are multiple compaints about this steamer and BOTH of mine do it should be a huge cause for concern. This could seriously injure somebody’s face, child or pet. I cannot believe that these are still being sold!

I was using my Shark steam mop. Suddenly it stopped creating steam, so I unplugged it and waited for the mop head to cool. I started to take the mop head off of the unit by pressing the release button, when the mop head shot off the unit, followed by a huge stream of blistering hot steam that shot across the room. I sustained a very minor burn on my left thumb. Luckily, my children and dog were not in the vicinity when the steam shot out. I will NEVER use a steam mop of this kind again.

The product, in the report: Shark Steam Pocket Mop. Purple and gray unit with telescoping gray handle leading into a purple water canister leading into a detachable head. Head is a variety of choices made of gray plastic material and covered by a white fabric cover.
I filled my Shark Steam Mop with tap water and plugged it in to warm up so I could steam clean my floors. I noticed that the unit wasn’t making the usual periodic gurgle or steam sound as it usually did as it heated up. It was plugged in for several minutes by this time and the power light on the unit was illuminated blue to indicate there was power to the unit. I pumped the handle to try to produce steam and nothing happened. I pumped the handle several more times and there was no steam produced by the unit. At this point, I had gently felt the cleaning head attachment with my fingers and it was cool and dry. I do not think that any steam was making its way to the cleaning pad.
I sat on the couch and picked the unit up, placing the unit parallel to the floor across my lap with the cleaning head hanging a few inches to the right of my legs to take a look at it. I leaned forward a bit while I was looking at the unit and in my hands and on my legs I felt that the unit was warm to the touch as I believe it usually was prior to the incident. While I was examining the unit in my lap, there was an unexpected, sudden very loud popping/exploding sound and steam burst out powerfully from all the seams of the body of the unit in a hot and quick release. I am not sure what happened internally, but to me it seemed like a large amount of pressure built inside the unit and it caused a mass steam exit from the body of the unit’s seams rather than down the unit shaft and out through the cleaning head attachment. The hot steam exiting through the seams of the unit body caused mild steam burns to my face and by hands. Luckily, my legs were covered with clothing. I remember dropping the unit to the floor while screaming and running to unplug it. There were no external signs that anything was malfunctioning inside the unit. I never plugged the unit in again after this incident.
Before and after the incident, the unit was undamaged and never had been dropped. Since some time has passed since I reported the incident to the manufacturer, I don’t remember the use details as much as I did at that time, but the unit was used lightly in normal residential household use to clean floors in a small 950 sq. foot house (very lightly used) no more than 5 times before this happened. The unit was never dropped or mishandled. I believe that I always used tap water and didn’t used distilled water inside the water canister. I was the only one to ever use the product and I received it new as a gift in its original manufacturer packaging. The attachments were in pristine condition as well. Water was emptied from the unit following each use. The unit was stored hanging in a cool, dry place always.
I treated the burns, which equated to mild sunburn on my face and quickly touching a hot stove top on my hands at home using ice packs for several hours following the incident. My face was sensitive and sore for a week or two after the incident. Fortunately, no scarring occurred from the burns.
I remember that the incident happened in 2010 or 2011, but I don’t have the exact date. I reported it to the manufacturer over the phone. The representative took a report of the incident including description of injury sustained, coordinated the return of the malfunctioned product via UPS, replaced the product with a same, equal product, and gave me 2 free Shark products and additional Shark steam mop replacement head cloths of my choice. If I recall correctly, the free products were in exchange for not pursuing a product liability suit for the burns, but I can’t 100% recall if this was expressly stated to me by the representative.
Because I returned the product before knowing this resource was available to me to report consumer incidents, I don’t have the serial number, the incident date, or model number. However, the manufacturer does have a detailed report from me and would hopefully willingly share my report with the US government.

The product, in the report: Euro-Pro Shark Steam Mop, Model S3250 Purple & grey handle, purple base where water tank and heating element are, grey mop bottom where mop attachments go.
I was using my Shark Steam Mop, Model S3250 and as it was warming up the hissing noise it usually makes as it releases steam seemed muffled. The sound is usually loud(ish) and you can usually see the steam being released. As I pumped the handle I saw no steam and began to feel concerned that something was wrong with the mop. I unplugged it right away and seconds after I did so, the cap to the top of the water tank popped up and loads of steam was released through the water tank as well as out of the seams of the base of the mop where I assume the heating element is. The mop base was so hot it was literally melting the paint and dripping purple all over the floor. While this portion of the mop usually gets hot, this time it easily would have left burns if touched.

The product, in the report: Electric steam mop
While using a EuroPro Shark steam Pocket Mop, the steam channel melted and became clogged. Upon inspecting the unit as to while it was not functioning and releasing steam, the mop head exploded away from the unit, and steam was release in an uncontrolled fashion. Luckily, no one was hurt, but the steam jet was about 1-2 feet in the air as reflected off of a tile floor. Any hands in the way would have been scalded and burned. Small pieces of the melted plastic steam channel had broken off, and were found on the floor after the steam had finished releasing. If the mop had been pointing up as opposed to at the floor when the explosion occurred, these may have become projectiles.
This mop had been replaced under warranty for a similar clog which resulted in the non-function of the unit. The first mop had internal tubes rupture, without outward explosion. However, that unit was broken at that point. The replacement unit failed outwardly, which is considerably more dangerous. Both units had been filled with tap water with each use. I would believe that calcification due to tap water minerals would have clogged the first unit, but a melted steam channel in the second would not be caused by minerals in water.

But hot steam could cause serious burns. An inspection showed that a steam hose failed. It blew apart send a spring that was inside the hose into the unit near electrical connections. Internet research show this is a common failure for these units. Contact with Sharp determined this is a common failure and they will not sell repair products for this failure.

I was using my Shark Pocket Steam Mop model S3501-N as I normally do when I clean my floor when it stopped producing steam, I lifted the mop head off the floor to see what was going off and it exploded off, shooting about 5 feet across the room with a rush of hot steam and water, all over my hand and right at my dog. I got the beginning stages of a burn on my palm and pinkie, but nothing that would need an ER visit. Had my kids been in the room or my dog literally 6 inches to the right, we would have been in big trouble. Once it was cooler, I looked closer at the head, none of the holes were clogged. I reattached the head, plugged it in with a new and tried it again, same thing happened. I immediately looked online and saw many reports of the exact same problem with this particular model. I called Shark and they’re sending out a replacement, but I’m afraid of the same problem occurring again with no warning.

The product, in the report: Shark Steam Pocket Mop The owner’s guide has an “S3501” on it, although there is no model number listed on the original box.
I was steam-mopping the floor as I usually do, using a back-and forth motion. Suddenly the mophead blew off and exploded with a great burst of steam. I was very lucky that this happened when the mop was away from my body and no pets were in the vicinity, as the unit was very hot. After I got over my shock, I looked at the area where the pieces had come apart. Nothing appeared broken, so after it cooled down I put the pieces back together and tried to resume mopping. But I wasn’t hearing the normal stem noises, and I could not generate steam pressure by pumping the handle. As I was about to give up, the mophead again exploded off the unit. This time water poured out of the handle end in addition to steam. This was obviously a very dangerous defect and I began looking online to see if this model had been recalled.

The product, in the report: Shark Steam Pocket Mop model S3501
I have a Shark Steam Pocket Mop model 3501. I have had it approximately 3 years. I only use it occasionally. I have always made it a priority to clean it properly as I paid a lot for it and cannot afford to just ruin it. I was using the mop as usual yesterday. You have to pump the handle to make it have steam. I had been using it for probably 5 minutes and I was pumping the handle and it would not pump, then it exploded! There are two windows on each side and one window on the front where the water goes in. Hot water came flying out of each window. Luckily my one year old was far enough away and luckily I did not bend down to see what was going on with it or we would have been burned. I immediately sent an email to the company explaining the above. I then looked online to see if there had been any other incidents like mine and I was shocked at how many there were. Today I got an email back stating that they are glad that no one was hurt and because the mop is out of warranty there is nothing they can do except give me a discount on a new one. I feel like they know there is a problem with that model and are refusing to do anything about it. I paid around $150 for this mop and cannot afford to buy another one. I think something should be done. Thanks.

The product, in the report: Shark S3501 (purple/grey) Steam Pocket Mop
I have a Shark S3501 Steam mop I’ve used it approximately 8 times. Today I used the steam mop on my kitchen floor and at first the steam mop apeared to working just fine. After approximately 10 minutes of use, the steam stopped coming out of the mop. There was plenty of water in the tank and the floor under the mop was hot. I unplugged the steam mop, as I went to turn the mop over to see why the steam had stopped coming out, the head of the mop shot off of the unit very fast. It shoot clear across my kitchen and let out so much hot steam. The top of my foot got burned because of all the hot steam coming out like it did. It was so unexpected and startled the heck out of me. Had my children or one of my pets been in the kitchen when this happened they would have been seriously injured.

The product, in the report: Shark Steam Mop. Model S3501. 120V, 60Hx, 1550 W. The mop is purple, with interchangeable heads, microfiber replaceable pads, adjustable-height handle, a 180-degree swivel steering, a 15-ounce water tank, and a 25-foot power cord.
I bought my Shark Steam Mop about a year ago. It’s worked great every time until today. I plugged in the mop and began pumping to start up the steam, just like the manual says. The mop started to steam so I began cleaning my floors. Then the mop stopped steaming, so I stopped cleaning and began pumping again. All of a sudden, the mop made a loud popping noise and hot water burst from the seams of the water tank, burning my legs. I immediately unplugged it and went on-line to find out that this seems to be a common problem.

The product, in the report: Shark S3501 Steam Mop
I own a Shark S3501 Steam mop and have used it only about 13 times. Yesterday the steam stopped coming out of the bottom of the mop but I could feel that the water was still hot and the mop was still plugged in and on. I unplugged it and let it cool off for a few minutes. I attempted to take the mop head off to check if something was obstructing the flow of the steam and the head shot across the room and hot steam sprayed out on my hand. I was not hurt but if someone would have been standing in front of it they would have been injured. I put the head back on and now the hot water comes out of the tank as steam and gets very hot and burns your hand if you get near. Plus the mop still isnt’ working and it appears the seals have blown.

I have owned a Euro Pro Light and Easy steam mop by Shark for a little over a year. Recently, it stopped emitting hot steam through the cleaning pad and just slowly dripped cool water. A few minutes after plugging it in today, the water tank exploded with hot steam bursting out of the seams. While I was lightly burned by the steam, I was not injured.

The product, in the report: Steam Mop manufactured by Shark and imported by Euro-Pro Operating,LLC.
Plugged in the Sharp Steam Pocket Mop Model S 3501 and was waiting for the mop to heat up prior to use. After waiting the minimal 30 second period to heat up and noticing steam was not being generated yet, allowed the unit to continue to heat. The time sequence was less than 3minutes when the unit suddenly popped and expelled hot steam from both sides of the water tank. Apparently there is no auto shut off trip mechanism if the unit overheats or builds up too much steam pressure.
Fortunately there were no injuries but the potential for serious burns was present. This is the second unit I have owned and they have a tendency to periodically clog up but in the past the unit basically self cleaned itself and steam would flow normally into the steam mop head. This did not occur on 10/15 and as noted, the water tank unit exploded, expelled hot steam from both sides and is no longer functional.

The product, in the report: The Shark Steam Mop is an electric powered mop. Water in the reservoir gets heated when the unit is plugged in. The motion of mopping back and forth is supposed to generate the steam, which is expelled through a microfiber fabric-covered detachable plastic mop head. The steam heat and moisture are supposed to clean and sanitize hard surface floors.
While using my Shark Steam Mop S3501 yesterday, it worked normally for about 1 minute. Then it ceased producing steam through the mop head. I pumped the handle in an attempt to get it back to normal. The mop head was cool to the touch (not hot as is normal when the unit is on), but the unit was plugged in, the power light was on, and the water tank full. I unplugged it and went to eject the mop head to troubleshoot, but when I pressed the eject button, the attachment explosively shot off and steam started blasting from the bottom of the unit. My fingers got slight steam burns, but if a person or pet had been standing in front of me and the mop, they would have been seriously burned.
We were able to replicate this scenario, but the second time, the mop head flew off on its own after just a few seconds, without the release button being pressed, and steam again started shooting everywhere--about a 2 foot long jet of steam. This mop is seriously hazardous and seem to have some design flaws. Mine is 8 months old and has been used fewer than a dozen times.

The product, in the report: Shark Steam Pocket Mop S3501
I have a Shark Steam Pocket Mop S3501. Last week steam stopped coming out of the head so I decided to remove the head to see if there was something I could fix. When I removed the head steam shoot out the nozzel that remained and scalded my hand. I put the other head on the unit and it worked fine. I disassembled the first head and cleaned it. When I began using it today it worked fine for about 15 minutes then stopped making steam. I let it cool for 30 minutes, removed the head and installed the other head. I plugged the unit in and waited about ten minutes for the steam to build up. Before I could begin to clean the floors the unit blew up spraying steam from the sides and top of the unit where the handle enters. It does not function now. This situation is very dangerous. I was very lucky I was able to move my hand out of the way when the steam shot out as I was removing the head. The scalding was only minor but could have been much worse.

The product, in the report: Shark (Euro-Pro Holdings LLC) Steam Mop Model S3501
We purchased a Shark Steam Mop (marketed by Euro-Pro Holdings LLC) in maybe May 2010. This is a household device to mop floors with hot steam. There is a steam generating component in the midsection of the handle (and a water tank) and the steam is channeled to a flexible mop head that is covered by a cloth pocket.
There is a one year warranty.
The mop stopped providing steam maybe last time my wife used it. She didn’t mention that to me before I used it today. When I used it, I plugged it in to turn it on and waited for it to start producing steam. You can lift and depress the upper handle to initiate the further production of steam (sometimes when there is low water or other conditions, steam production can be inhibited so patience is required). I did this intermittently, not aggressively, for maybe a minute or two.
The unit was quiet however, meaning it was not producing steam.
Then it exploded and shot steam all over the floor in maybe a three foot jet. The mop head broke from the handle, although the break point was actually a release or latched joint, so the explosion itself did not damage the unit. You could describe it as the mop head explosively detaching. I was very surprised, and because of the heat, force, and pressure involved I was glad that I was not manipulating the mop head when it explosively detached because I easily could have been scalded.
After unplugging and inspecting the unit and looking for a clog in the steam channel, I repeated the procedure once again, but without purposefully generating steam (I did not manipulate the handle). The mop head explosively detached again after a short time (30 seconds?).
I then let the unit cool and disassembled the steam channel, as I assumed it was clogged. In fact, on inspection, I saw that the upper steam channel (which is in direct proximity to the steam production unit) was designed as being plastic. Part of the plastic had bubbled up like Styrofoam, and part of it had collapsed and melted. In other words, instead of using a material that was unlikely to melt for the very hot upper steam channel, the designer of the mop used cheap plastic that melted around the time the warranty expired, collapsed around the small steam channel, and caused the unit to explode (or the mop head to explosively detach) in normal use.
I called Euro-Pro/Shark to talk to them. A rep said that the model probably was out of warranty (by maybe a month or two) and that warranty service was therefore unavailable. When I told him that I planned to report this to the consumer protection authorities, he referred me to another number 1-866-694-6406 that he said would generate a callback within 34 hours, and made some reference to burns or personal injuries. I told him that I was not interested in compensation for personal injury, because luckily I was not injured.
However, this unit is basically a ticking time bomb in my opinion and should be recalled. The melting of the plastic steam channel is a very predictable mode of failure, and it is outrageous that the most predictable mode of failure will very predictably cause the mop head to explosively detach.
I took pictures of the melted plastic piece (which is very small), which are attached. The pictures were taken after the channel was disassembled into basically four parts (two of which were plastic and had melted). There is another choke point in the steam channel, but it is metal and I assume that it is a valve of some sort. A picture of that also is attached. I am holding onto the steam mop in case you want it, but it is extremely hazardous in this condition and will not function as intended. It just explodes.
Please encourage Euro Pro to recall all of their units that have an upper steam channel composed of plastic, as it is unreasonably susceptible of melting and causing a resulting explosion.

The product, in the report: The Shark Pocket Steam Mop harnesses the power of steam for chemical-free cleaning and sanitizing on any sealed, hard-floor surface without the hassle and mess of a mop and bucket. Natural mopping motion creates steam on demand for deep cleaning and cleaning everyday spills, and the 180-degree swivel action makes the steam mop easy to maneuver into tight spaces. Two washable and reusable micro-fiber pads loosen, lift and lock in dirt for 4 sides of cleaning.
The Shark Steam Mop. We’ve used it plenty of times, but this happens frequently enough for me to consider it a product defect and a danger to the public!
The Mop will heat up and expel steam, but it gets CLOGGED some how and will build up enough pressure to literally shoot the head off expelling HOT STEAM & HOT WATER out the end endangering anyone close to the mop. This has happened numerous times!
I contacted ‘Euro-Pro Operating LLC’ who makes the Shark and they refuse to acknowledge my email.

The product, in the report: Shark S3501 steamer mop used to steam clean hard flooring surfaces
The Shark S3501 has the potential to be a “bomb” that projects superheated steam - similar to the kind of soda pop bottle bombs that kids can make.
My wife has been using the Shark S3501 steam mop for several months now. After using it for less than a minute, steam stopped coming out. She “pumped” the handle several times to prime it as the instructions suggest, but nothing. She unplugged the unit and let it sit for 2-3 minutes to “cool down” as the manual suggests. She opened the water unit plug to see if pressure had built up.
She then pressed the mophead release button which is directly above the mophead and the head literally shot off across the room along with ejecting superhot steam in a narrow stream. Fortunately, her hands were above the unit not below or in front of it otherwise she would have suffered serious burns.
We then carefully recreated the same circumstances. The same outcome occurred a second time. However, when we tried to video it this morning, the seal at the nozzle itself is broken (probably from being forcefully ejected) and steam leaks out the nozzle rather than becoming trapped.
The manual says nothing about this dangerous situation. The final sentence of quick start tip 16 says, “If you live in areas with hard water we recommend using distilled water”, but no mention is made of the potential consequences. Additionally, the advice to “prime the pump” if no steam is coming out absolutely contributes to the dangerous situation.
My wife is a nurse practitioner and has seen steam-related injuries in her practice. This product creates a very dangerous situation for consumers and the product documentation actually can make that situation worse.
