The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: cotton candy making machine.

This item is a cotton candy maker. To clean it the bowl and the rotor must be removed. Underneath the rotor is a stamped piece of steel that acts as a heat shield for the motor. This shield gets sugar on it and must also be cleaned. In the course of wiping it down my wife received a laceration on her finger due to a sharp edge on this shield piece. Upon inspection we found that the entire edge of the shield was very sharp -- essentially the sheet metal was cut and never deburred.

The product, in the report: Nostalgia cotton candy machine. Model ccm505

I read over the instructions given with the Nostalgic Cotton Candy machine and I proceeded to use the machine as directed. I turned the machine on, let it heat up first, turned the machine off to pour the sugar in just as directed, leveled the sugar by spinning the machine by hand and turned it on. When I turned the machine back on sugar flew out every where. When the sugar flew out it burnt my daughters face but the worst spot was about an inch under her eye. This was 3-4 days ago and the burn still has not healed completely. Even after telling the company what happened and telling them it could easily happen again to someone else they didn’t seem to care.

Plus, the non-stick baking plates make removal of the cupcakes easy and cleanup even easier. Makes a great gift for a relative, a friend - or yourself.

My Nostalgia Electrics CKM-100 Electric Cupcake Maker has only been used twice. The first time, after being plugged in for only a few minutes, it produced a great deal of smoke and a toxic smell like burning plastic, only stronger. The second time, some eight months later, after only being on for a few minutes (not even enough time to cook the muffins I was making fully) it basically burned itself to the point where it no longer functions. The inside lid has melted, the plastic closure has melted, the exterior paint has melted, and the light indicators on the top of the machine have melted. The appliance was so hot when I used it this second time that it nearly burned my fingers even through oven mitts, and it produced the same intense toxic smell and a great deal of smoke. I have tried to contact both the company that made it (Nostalgia Electrics, LLC - http://nostalgiaelectrics.com/) and the company that sold it (Best Buy), and neither has offered me any relief. After reading a number of similarly negative and scary reviews of this product on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00472MMZI/ref=cm_cr_mts_prod_img), I believe this product demands an immediate recall, and that the manufacturer and/or seller should be required to issue refunds. Particularly in light of my own experience with the machine, I fear that this product is a fire or a serious burn waiting to happen, and it is important to take it off the market before that occurs. I would be happy to provide pictures of the device and/or its packaging if necessary.
