The product, in the report: Electric floor steam cleaner

The consumer estimates that the steam cleaner is used once a week, approximately 20 minutes at a time. As of 12/1/2015, the consumer notices that the breaker would trip in the kitchen outlet that the steam cleaner was plugged into. The consumer tried the cleaner in a different outlet, but the breaker did not trip. The consumer said that other kitchen appliances such as her stove, refrigerator & microwave, were also on the breaker that tripped. Once this problem started happening, it would happen every time that the steam cleaner was used.

The consumer never noticed any smoke or burning odor, when the breaker tripped.

A/C 120 volts, 60 Hz, 800 watts, Conforms to UL Std. 499, and it has an ETL symbol as well.

The consumer is concerned that this could be a fire hazard.

The cleaner has never been services for any repairs in the past. To the consumer’s knowledge, none of the appliances have been affected as a result of this issue.

The product, in the report: HAAN Complete professional steam cleaner for multipurpose cleaning. Model number MS-35

I purchased the HAAN professional steam cleaner for multipurpose cleaning model number MS-35. On the second day of use the steam exploded from the flexible hose where it connects to the handle. The steam burned under my arm when it exploded. I did not need medical attention. However, if it had been on my face or an area not covered in clothing, it could have been severe. I did call the company and asked that they let their engineering team know of this incident. I was told they would be in contact about the incident, but have heard nothing back. I have since returned it to costco but have kept photos of the damaged hose. Thanks, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: haan floor steamer Model FS-20

Haan Floor Steamer - new and in really good condition, but trips the GFI electrical circuit in two bathrooms (separate circuits). Just started doing this after several months of service cleaning the same bathrooms using the same outlets. Other electrical appliances tested on the same two circuits do not trip the GFI. Unit has a power cord, a switch and a heating element only. A very simple device without electronics or other components. It will heat up and produce steam on non-GFI circuits but my concern is that someone will be electrocuted using this unit.

The product, in the report: HAAN Steam Cleaning Floor Sanitizer Model FS-20+ This is a product that the user fills with water, it creates steam, and it gets pushed along the floor via a long handle similar to a vacuum cleaner.

HAAN Steam Cleaning Floor Sanitizer Model FS-20+

This is a product that the user fills with water, it creates steam, and it gets pushed along the floor via a long handle similar to a vacuum cleaner.

The product was purchased in 2010 and used once a month. Now when the unit is filled with water and plugged into a ground fault interrupter equipped outlet, the GFI is triggered. It does NOT shut down a conventional breaker.

The unit is out of warranty and the company stated it did not have any other complaints of this issue. Upon internal inspection it was discovered that water was leaking from the steam chamber into the area of electrical wiring and circuit board. The wiring and connectors were wet. Since this was only discovered while using a GFI equipped outlet someone using a regular outlet will be unaware of the hazard.

The product, in the report: Steam Mop

Caller stated that she received an electric shock form the steam mop while she was using it for approximately 10 mins barefooted. She felt the electrical surge came through her right hand all the way out to her left foot where she has a titanium screw, she began shaking and could not remove her hand from the unit. She screamed out and her spouse came and immediately unplugged it. No medical attention was received. She felt a burning sensation to the side of her left foot and it damaged the nerves to her toes, which at times becomes numb.

8/16/13 She contacted the manufacturer and she was informed that the firm’s insurance company would contact her. They contact her and she filed a report with them and she was advised to return the steam mop which she did. 1/2014 She was informed that they examined the mop and that there was nothing wrong with the product and the claim would be denied. She requested that they returned the unit to her and they did.

Caller feels that this product is a safety hazard and should be reported.

The product is not included in a recall.
