Made Aug 30, 2012, sent to the company Sep 10, 2012, published by CPSC Oct 1, 2012

The product, in the report: Primo Flavor Station home soda maker

primo flavor station home soda maker machine. The bottles that come with the unit are not vented, If you leave soda made in the bottle with the top on it will explode. The first time it happened I was asleep and the bottle was on my nightstand, I was woken by loud boom the sounded like gunfire. The top flew up and hit the ceiling, the bottle flew across the room. I called the company to see if I was using it incorrectly, I was told the bottles are not vented and change in temp from cold when it was made to room temp causes pressure in the bottle because they are non vented tops. Knowing this I continue to vent the bottle myself as I am using them, however today I was driving and it happened again after I had just vented the bottle like I was instructed. It exploded all over my car, thankfully I was stopped and was not hit by the flying cap, I have learned always point the cap away from me at all times. I worry someone will be injured because the cap is very forceful then it comes off.
