The product, in the report: steam mop for hard floors that also has a vacuum feature
I was steam mopping my floors with the product, and my older child let my one year old through the baby gate. When I saw him coming towards me I stopped mopping and put the handle upright, reached to get him a cookie off the counter. He slid on some water as he came towards me and his toes slid under the edge of the steam mop. I grabbed him up immediately, and ran cool water over his toes, but the damage was done. He sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns to both feet. After a trip to his pediatrician, then a pediatric surgeon in a neighboring town, we were sent to a burn center in Augusta, Georgia (about 4 hours away). [REDACTED] (my son) was admitted and had surgery to debride his burns and apply gamma-overlying silver grafts. He was bandaged, redressed, and assessed once a week, requiring multiple drives back. He has handled this ordeal better than his parents, we are thankful that his grafts did well, he does have keloid scarring on one toe, the others fared better. We are unsure of the nerve damage he has sustained, but are hopeful to not require any further treatment. The safety feature of the steam vac is that the steam stops when the handle is upright- clearly, that did not function properly, and the warnings in the manufacturer book are not adequate in my opinion. It never occurred to me that anything could slide under the edge, since it appears flush with the ground until close inspection. I just hope the warning labels can be adjusted to adequately warn future consumers. I do not want this traumatic event to happen to any other child or family.

First aid Made Oct 31, 2011, sent to the company Nov 8, 2011, published by CPSC Nov 23, 2011
The product, in the report: An electric Euro-Pro Shark S3501 Deluxe Steam Pocket Mop that is used to steam clean floors through a washable fabric pad.
Was using Shark steam mop model # S3501 and unit suddenly popped, there was an electrical flash from the unit and steam began shooting from all around the main body of the unit. The steam caused some superficial burns to my fingers and hands. Thankfully the burns weren’t as bad as some I have been reading about online after “Googling Shark steam mop exploded”.
This unit was purchased through Amazon.com (no reflection on them) as new on January 27, 2010 and the incident happened on 6-27-2011. This steam mop was only used by myself and approximately once per week for about 15 minutes per usage.
As you can see by the attached photos, something caused the line that attaches to the heating unit to burst. When the line burst, it actually shoved what appears to be an internal hose support spring out of the hose completely. On further investigation of this ruptured line, I have found that it is assembled with an extremely sharp bend, almost a kink, in the routing of the line in order to attach to the heating assembly. Also, the lines used inside of this unit seem to be of a very low grade quality.
If this unit had not assembled with such a sharp bend in the line and/or a higher grade material of line used, I suspect this problem would not have occurred.
