Super hot steam leaked out of faulty inner rubber hose/steam head connection and super heated the metal tube it was enclosed in. This resulted in a severe burn to my child’s thigh and now permanent scarring. Bissell has inspected the device and called it wear and tear. This metal enclosure tube was only affixed by one screw that wobbled to screw hole from the shape of a circle to that of an oval allowing for flexion of the rubber tube/steam head interface and a steam leakage.

I purchased a Bissell SteamShot handheld steam cleaner prior to 2022. While using it in my loft, I contacted Bissell Consumer Care because the unit was spraying steam even when I was not pressing the trigger. I was not informed of any recall at that time.
On February 5, 2026, the unit malfunctioned and sprayed steam unexpectedly, causing a seconddegree burn approximately 1.5 inches in diameter, resulting in permanent scarring. I later learned the product had been recalled, but I was never notified.I contacted Bissell immediately after the injury. They opened a claim but have not routed me to the appropriate corporate or injuryclaims representative despite multiple requests. Their Consumer Care team continues to handle the matter instead of the responsible claims department.

I purchased a Bissell Steam Shot off Amazon. The model number is not part of a previous recall. I used the machine to clean grout. After a few seconds of steam appropriately coming out of the grout cleaning attachment, steam started coming out of multiple sites in the tubing including at connections to the machine, connections to the grout cleaning tip, and screw holes. The tubing itself also became extremely hot. When the steam unexpectedly came out of the tubing, it contacted my arm and gave me a second degree burn. I later double checked that all attachments were tightened and the machine was being used according to directions.

I received a recall notice from Amazon on the Bissell SteamShot, which reminded me of the last time I attempted to use mine last month it was spraying water and steam out of the top of the device. I immediately unplugged it and tried again later, which resulted in the same issue. The device was just sitting in an upright position on the table while I waited for it to heat up when it began to spray water and steam out near the hole at the top of the device where you pour the water into it. I double checked to make sure the cap was on tight, which it was. Fortunately, no injuries incurred. When I entered my device’s model # into the recall website it stated it was not recalled.
