The product, in the report: Rhino USA Ratchet Tie Down Straps 1” x 15’, 1,823lb Guaranteed Max Break Strength.
I purchased ratchet straps on Amazon from a company in the U.S. - Rhino USA back in 2021. I have only used the straps a few times for light use and have been stored inside of my truck since the purchase. In my experience, ratchet straps are assumed to funciton as designed without much degradation in quality for years under heavy use. In this case, I considered these straps to be like new.
These straps loosened while returning home with some furniture on US 23 in Michigan. I had to exit the expressway immediately or risk my payload exiting the bed of my truck. Luckily, I had more straps and an abbundance of rope in my truck. I was able to secure my furniture for the rest of the drive.
I examined the build quality of these straps later today to find that they do not retains tension as a ratchet strap normally would. I feel that these straps pose a serious danger to the public and am grateful that I noticed the problem stated above when I did or else a person could have easily been killed today.
