Hospital admission Made May 25, 2022, sent to the company May 27, 2022, published by CPSC Jun 13, 2022
The product, in the report: Product is made by NEXGRILL. Approximately 20” long handle. Black plastic handle. 1/2 metal bristles. Metal scraper on end of tool.
On the evening of May 23, 2022 I used a product made by NEXGRILL to clean my grill grate. Unknown to me, one of the bristles ended up lodged in the food I was preparing. Upon my first bite of this food, there was an intense stabbing pain in my neck. I attempted to gargle to remove what was lodged in my throat without success. Early the next morning I presented to the emergency department where several attempts were made in triage to remove the foreign object in my neck. Cat scan revealed a thin wire embedded in my esophagus. A surgical consult by the hospital ENT verified the foreign body. Removal of this item had to be done Surgically as an attempt to remove with a score failed. The writer of this report has been discharged and is resting with mild pain medication.
