Hospital admission Made Nov 17, 2017, sent to the company Dec 4, 2017, published by CPSC Dec 26, 2017
The product, in the report: Grill Mark Tool for the outdoor cook, bbq grill brush with metal bristles, about 8” long and 3” wide
I write this letter today to also request your attention to a serious consumer safety problem involving brushes with metal bristles for grills, as did [REDACTED] attached.
My husband knew right away he had bit into a piece of meat with a bristle that buried itself inside his tongue. We went to Exeter Hospital ER right away in August 2017 but nobody could see anything, so we were told to wait and contact an ENT Specialist if it continued to have the stabbing pain it would cause off and on. Dr. [REDACTED] of Core Physicians in [REDACTED] was contacted a couple of days later. He didn’t find anything but said we will monitor it more. The stabbing pain continued until my husband insisted on an x-ray. The x-ray did indeed clearly show the metal bristle lodged inside his tongue. An MRI was then done soon after and finally surgery did successfully remove it on 9/22/2017.
Luckily it didn’t abscess or get infected during the month or so it was being investigated, or worse, come out and go into his stomach and larger organs where other people (see attached Victoria story) have reported this as well. We have since heard many folks say they heard this story about these brushes with warning on news channels, and reports of people getting intestines removed and stomach surgeries, and terribly frightening, life threatening issues over it!
I am writing this letter to see where we are on [REDACTED] request and to ask why this product is still on the market at all. The brush has a warning label on it, but it may take a lawsuit to finally stop this product from being sold in the US. But why would this not be banned? It seems like the best thing to do, as it would be if it were a child’s toy etc..
