The Zaks! cups I purchased for my 1 year old toddler have a plastic or rubber grip around the lid and my 1 year old was able to take it off of each cup. For the first cup, the Cookie Monster cup, he had his cup in his stroller and I found him with the entire blue piece (looks like a bracelet) fully in his mouth. We have since thrown away that grip blue piece. On a second occasion, while drinking from the Elmo cup, he was able to take off the orange rubber or plastic piece.
