No one hurt Made Sep 27, 2026, sent to the company Oct 6, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 28, 2026
The product, in the report: Starbucks white dotted reusable tumbler with lid, 16 fl oz capacity. White cup body with a dotted pattern.
A Starbucks white dotted tumbler, 16 fl oz, developed a crack in its cup body on its very first use. While pouring coffee at home on August 26, 2026 and pressing the lid onto the cup, the cup body cracked along the side. The cup had never been dropped, struck, or mishandled, so this appears to be a manufacturing or quality defect. The cracked edges are sharp and could cut a user. The crack can also leak hot beverage and cause burns or scalds. No one was injured. This is a hazard report. The cup was purchased on August 25, 2026 at the Starbucks store located at 19725 Old Hwy 99 SW, Rochester, WA 98579. The consumer contacted Starbucks. The Rochester store refused a return or exchange because the cup was cracked, and Starbucks corporate online chat, agent [REDACTED], September 27, 2026, declined to provide a replacement and declined to escalate, issuing no case number.

First aid Made Oct 20, 2025, sent to the company Nov 6, 2025, published by CPSC Nov 26, 2025
The product, in the report: Single-wall paper cup with no sleeve & no double-cup containing hot tea purchased from Starbucks
On October 17, 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM PST, an individual sustained second-degree burns when a hot tea purchased from Starbucks at a retail location in San Luis Obispo, California, spilled onto their left thigh and hand.
The spill occurred because the paper cup failed structurally at the top, collapsing as it was placed in a standard vehicle cup holder. The beverage had been served without double-cupping or a protective sleeve, and the temperature was high enough to cause blistering within 30 minutes of exposure.
The incident was not the result of mishandling. The cup itself was not able to withstand the temperature of the product it contained. Immediate treatment guidance was sought from a pharmacist, and follow-up care was required. Product Involved: Hot tea purchased from Starbucks Single-wall paper cup (no sleeve, no double-cup) Incident location: Starbucks, [REDACTED] Incident date: October 17, 2025 Incident time: ~2:00 PM PST Injury Details: Burn location: left thigh and left hand Severity: multiple large blisters (second-degree) developed within approximately 30 minutes Immediate treatment: pharmacist consultation and burn care Witness present at time of incident The container provided by Starbucks was not structurally adequate to safely contain liquid at the temperature it was served. This represents a foreseeable and preventable burn hazard.
The business has moved away from double-cupping and is using cups that appear to be insufficiently heat-resistant for the temperature at which the beverage is served. This is a product safety issue, not a customer accident. A sturdier cup or appropriate insulation could have prevented the injury. Photographs documenting the injury were taken immediately after the incident and on subsequent days. Starbucks has been contacted, but has not acknowledged the cup failure as a contributing factor. This report is being filed because the issue is systemic, not isolated, and poses a risk of similar or more severe injuries to other consumers.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Oct 14, 2024, sent to the company Oct 17, 2024, published by CPSC Nov 7, 2024
The product, in the report: Starbucks Hot Venti Cups sold in Target or other brand retailers associated with Starbucks. Issues with lids on the hot products fitting as well.
I ordered a Venti Hot Carmel Apple Spice at the Target in Parma, OH. Upon reaching down to the counter and picking up my cup the cup pretty much melted down and the lid flew off the carmel apple spice buring the outside and inside of my left arm. The carmel apple drink went all over the area and the management team was notified. I received second degree burns as a result of the incident. The employees acknowledged that the cups had an issue and especially the hot ones. The manager [REDACTED] decided they should double up the cups if not pull them from the counter. [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] were also present during the issue.

No one hurt Made Jan 4, 2023, sent to the company Jan 12, 2023, published by CPSC Jan 27, 2023
The product, in the report: It was a Grande Cafe Misto from Starbucks. Paper cup, sleeve and plastic lid.
The lids on the Starbucks disposable coffee cups just are not the right size. We have had several just come off. Today coffee went everywhere in our car and into our gear shifter. This is a potential burn issue. We were just setting the cup in our cup holder in the car today. And a couple days ago I just picked it up and the lid came off same issue as today and when you are not expecting it just squeezing the cup to lift it up makes the coffee go everywhere. Very scary

The product, in the report: Starbucks mug - Been There series - Florida design
I bought a ‘Been There’ series mug at a Starbucks in Englewood Florida on Oct. 22nd. When I opened the box, there was black mold growing in it. I didn’t use it - but my concern is that I was exposed to the mold which could be very dangerous. No injuries so far.
