  1. No one hurt

Made Apr 1, 2015, sent to the company Apr 9, 2015, published by CPSC Apr 30, 2015

The product, in the report: Drinking glasses in 6, 8, and 12 ounce sizes. The 8 and 12 ounce sizes are marked PALAKS in the bottom. They are 10 sided clear glass with fairly thick bottoms. The drinking glass that exploded was the 12 ounce size.

We have owned this set of glasses for about 6 years, and I do not remember where they were purchased. They are drinking glasses with a heavy bottom, identified by the letters PALAKS in the bottom. I washed the dishes in the dishwasher at 8:00 PM on March 28, 2015. At approximately 8:00 AM on March 29th, I was taking the dishes out of the dishwasher and putting them away. I grasped one of the 12 ounce drinking glasses between my thumb and forefinger to pick it up from the dishwasher, and it exploded in my hand. I was fortunate I was wearing eyeglasses, because several small glass shards hit my face. I was not cut by the flying glass. Now I’m afraid to pick the glasses up by the bottom.

The dishes in the dishwasher were slightly cooler than the air temperature, because the house thermostat had been set for 68 degrees F. overnight, and the furnace had just heated the air temperature to 70 degrees F.

I have photos that I can provide of the scene of the explosion. The “Add Files” button does not work for me. I originally received a message that I needed a different version of Flash Player. I went to the Adobe web site and downloaded and installed the most recent version, but the “Add Files” button still does not work, even after closing and restarting Internet Explorer and Firefox.
